Registered Nurse to the Surgical Clinic in Växjö

Through the research plan until 2030, the pharmaceutical strategy 2025–2030, and priorities in upcoming budgets, the goal is to increase the number of clinical studies and trials. This is an important part of contributing to medical development and ensuring good and equitable care for the residents of the county.
The Surgical Clinic in Växjö is now looking for a registered nurse for a combined position where you will work 80% clinically and 20% with research. You can choose whether you want your clinical placement in ward 33 or ward 34 – two well-functioning and engaged care departments with different focuses but the same emphasis on collaboration, learning, and a good work environment.
The Surgical Clinic operates both planned and emergency surgical activities around the clock.
Ward 33 – Vascular Surgery and Urology
A smaller unit with 12 care places where you work closely with your colleagues in a tight-knit team. Here, patients are cared for in vascular surgery, urology, trauma, and general surgery both before and after surgery. The pace varies, and you will follow the patient through the entire care process.
Ward 34 – Gastrointestinal Surgery and ENT Surgery
A larger unit with 20 care places and a high patient flow. Here, you will meet patients with varying surgical needs, from abdominal pain to cancer diagnoses, and work with both emergency and planned care. You will use advanced care technology and work with everything from mobilization to palliative care.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
As a nurse in the surgical clinic, you will work with both planned and emergency surgical care. You are an important part of the team around the patient and have an active role in the entire care process from admission to discharge. The tasks vary depending on the chosen department but include, among others:
- Plan and coordinate care together with doctors, nursing assistants, and other professionals
- Prepare and support patients before and after surgery
- Perform nursing technical procedures such as sampling, placing access lines, managing central lines, medication pumps, and EDA
- Be responsible for pain relief, fluid balance (ward 34), and mobilization
- Provide care and medication according to prescription
- Be a reliable contact for the patient's relatives
- Document in the medical records systems (Cosmic and Nova Ward)
- Collaborate with other care providers, such as home care and other hospital services
- Participate in improvement work and contribute to the development of care
You will receive an introduction tailored to your experience, as well as the opportunity to participate in professional development and lectures related to the patient group you work with.
In the role of research nurse, you will be involved in several clinical studies where you are expected to plan, implement, and follow up the study process according to study-specific protocols. The studies that may come in can vary based on incoming assignments. The role includes, among other things:
- Organize, coordinate, and conduct research participant visits
- Be the primary contact for the research participant during their participation in the study/research project
- Perform study-specific sampling and examinations in accordance with the current study protocol
- Collect and register data in various research systems
- Take blood samples and dispense study medication according to instructions
- Participate in monitoring and quality assurance of studies
- Contribute to the development of working methods and routines within the surgical clinic
You will work independently but have close collaboration with the reception and research coordinators.
QUALIFICATIONS
We are looking for someone who:
- Is a registered nurse
- Has a few years of clinical experience
- Has good collaboration skills and enjoys working in a team
- Is confident in working independently and has a good ability to prioritize
- Communicates clearly and attentively with patients, relatives, and colleagues
- Has good knowledge of Swedish and English, both spoken and written
- Has a professional and solution-focused approach
- Is meticulous, attentive, and has a good ability to handle stress
Meritorious are:
- Experience in surgical care
- Experience in research work
