Custody Guard at the Swedish Police Authority in Växjö
Are you ready for a bigger task? The Swedish Police Authority is Sweden's largest authority with approximately 40,000 employees across the country. With us, you have the opportunity to contribute to the Police's mission to increase safety and reduce crime in society.
The Kalmar Kronoberg Police Area is one of the police areas within the Southern region and is headquartered in Kalmar. The police area is divided into five local police areas: Västervik, Kalmar, Nybro, Växjö, and Ljungby. Within the police area, there is also an investigation section, an investigative duty section, and an area office.
We are now looking for several custody guards for Växjö, both for permanent employment and temporary positions. As a permanently employed custody guard, you will undergo training for the role of custody guard. The training takes place in Eslöv, Skåne.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The work as a custody guard involves handling and meeting individuals who have been deprived of their freedom for various reasons. Many are deprived of liberty for the purpose of investigating crimes, but it can also involve shorter detentions due to intoxication. The custody guard is the person with whom the detainee has the closest contact during their time in custody, and the work is conducted under the supervision of a station commander. The work thus involves reception, processing, monitoring, and supervision. The assignment also includes administrative tasks, examples of which are documentation regarding the detention, DNA sampling, fingerprinting (taking fingerprints and photographing), urine sampling, and record checks. You will also work with taking police reports and performing various investigative measures, such as conducting simple interrogations regarding the section's cases.
You will also assist the station commander and the on-duty investigation leader with the registration of cases, preparation of daily lists, report taking, and monitoring technical equipment (including surveillance cameras, intercoms, and internal alarms). Performing various investigative measures, such as conducting simple interrogations, may also occur. As a custody guard, side assignments and the opportunity to work with video reviews may be included as needed and of particular interest.
The pace of work varies over time and depends on how many are detained in custody. You may also participate in transports to court hearings and monitoring assignments. Your approach is of great importance for the detainee's experience of the police, which is crucial for the ongoing investigation.
The employment is scheduled for three shifts with periodic planning.
QUALIFICATIONS
This is an opportunity for you who have:
- High school education or other education (completed with a passing grade) or relevant work experience as assessed by the employer
- Good ability to express yourself in Swedish, both orally and in writing
- Good understanding of the English language and the ability to express yourself well in English
- Good vision (glasses are allowed, but you must be able to perform the work without glasses if necessary)
- Good health, both physically and mentally, as the work requires you to act physically at times
- Driver's license B, either manual or automatic
We consider it an advantage if you also have:
- At least one year of documented work experience (internships do not count)
- Work experience in interacting with people in vulnerable and/or problematic situations
- Work experience from custody, correctional services, and/or the armed forces
- Completed the police custody guard training with a passing grade
- Good computer skills and experience in handling various systems
Personal Qualities
The tasks require the ability to act calmly and professionally, even in stressful situations. You have good self-awareness and apply a high level of security thinking, which means you are reliable in situations where physical violence may arise and can adapt your approach and demeanor for conflict prevention. You have the ability to prioritize and quickly switch between tasks and have very good collaboration skills both internally and externally, but can also work independently. You relate to others in a responsive and smooth manner, which contributes to your ability to listen, communicate, and resolve conflicts constructively.
When hiring, we will place great emphasis on personal qualities.
