Do you want to work in one of Scandinavia's most unique gastronomic environments – right on an island where nature, culture, and hospitality meet?

House of Ven is now looking for a Head Waiter / Maître d’ hotel with wine expertise who wants to become a key person in our guest experience.

Working on an island is a bit different and for most of us, it’s also a lifestyle. Many of our employees choose to live on the island, in staff housing or permanently, and take part in island life as a whole.

About the role

As a Head Waiter with us, you have a central operational role in the dining room. You work closely with the Head Chef and/or Restaurant Manager and are responsible for creating a warm, professional, and well-coordinated hospitality.

You are the management's extended arm in the dining room and a natural link between the kitchen, service, and guests.

Your main responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate service in the dining room
  • Prepare and set up the restaurant for service
  • Ensure high quality in hospitality, pace, and guest flow
  • Actively work with wine recommendations and beverage service
  • Be daily support and a role model for the serving team
  • Ensure clear communication between the dining room and kitchen
  • Stay updated on menus, guests, and booking status
  • Assist with hotel check-ins & check-outs and bookings as needed
  • Participate in events, themed dinners, and special arrangements

We are looking for someone who

  • Has experience as a head waiter, maître d’, senior server, or similar
  • Has good wine knowledge and a genuine interest in food & drink
  • Is confident, structured, and solution-oriented
  • Thrives in a close-knit island environment with a strong team spirit
  • Has a high sense of service and natural authority
  • Speaks Swedish and/or English fluently

Documented wine education and/or experience as a sommelier or equivalent is an advantage.

Formal education is a plus, but we also value practical experience, passion, and the ability to convey wine and beverages in an inspiring way.
