Do you want to work and grow in a forward-thinking and vibrant editorial team this summer? Then Helagotland is the place for you! We are Gotland's local newspaper and work to provide our audience with the best journalistic coverage of the island. With our titles Helagotland, Gotlands Allehanda, and Gotlands Tidningar, we reach nearly all Gotlanders every week, year-round.
Here, we work at a fast pace to create news-leading and innovative coverage of our area every day. You will have the opportunity to work in a creative environment and be involved in scrutinizing important societal issues and capturing local conversations.
We want to be first and best in sharp news situations while also offering our audience in-depth articles, guides, and touching stories. With us, you should always be able to find news close to your everyday life.
We always put the reader, viewer, or listener first and always start from what needs we can meet.
As a substitute with us, you will become part of the team from day one and help create journalism about Gotland, for Gotlanders. You will have a group of engaged, skilled, and helpful colleagues who can teach you a lot. We are looking for:
Reporters for the news and sports departments.
As a reporter, you are good at understanding what the essence of a news story is. You find the angle and write the article in an interesting and comprehensible way. You have a good sense of language, are meticulous, and have a strong interest in societal issues. You are curious and engaged and contribute to the whole; when given the chance, you often have your own ideas about what we should cover and how.
Web editors for the news desk.
On the desk, we work to plan and elevate the entire editorial team's journalism. Here, faster news events are also handled.
As a web editor, you are comfortable publishing on the site and on social media. You can evaluate newsworthiness and are skilled at finding the angle and understanding what the essence of a news story is.
You are quick to adapt to change, enjoy a fast pace, learning new things, and working with digital packaging in various formats. You have a good sense of language, are meticulous, and have a strong interest in societal issues. You are interested and engaged and contribute to the whole; when given the chance, you often have your own ideas about what we should cover and how.
We are looking for someone who:
- Has or is studying a journalism degree or equivalent, or has equivalent work experience.
- Has a passion for journalism and a desire to convey news that helps the audience in their daily lives.
- Likes to be the first with news and to convey news at a fast pace.
- Thrives in a fast-paced environment where tasks may be reprioritized based on the news situation.
- Is curious, willing to learn new things, and quick to adapt to change.
- Has a good sense of language, can understand the angle, and convey straightforward news in text.
- Has basic knowledge of photography and film (with mobile and/or DSLR).
- Has knowledge of journalism such as interview techniques, research, information gathering, source criticism, and news packaging.
A driving license (B) is required as driving is part of the job.
The positions may involve working hours during the day, evenings, and weekends.
