Psychologist at the Swedish Red Cross Treatment Center in Gothenburg

The Swedish Red Cross Treatment Center in Gothenburg provides treatment for traumatized refugees with residence permits as well as asylum seekers and undocumented individuals living in the Västra Götaland region. We are now looking for a psychologist for a permanent position to replace a colleague who is moving on to a new assignment.

We primarily work with individual treatment for adults and consistently in teams, i.e., multi-disciplinary. A day consists of clinical work hour by hour, in terms of assessment and talk therapy. We have recently implemented intensive treatment for PTSD in an outpatient form. We have team meetings and treatment conferences once a week, allocate time for joint seminars and planning days. Our mission also includes spreading information about war and refugee trauma and how individuals are affected, which means we give lectures in municipalities, regions, schools, and for others who meet the same target group. We offer internships for students and there is an opportunity to supervise them.

You will have the opportunity to become part of a developing team. Our employees are offered supervision in clinical work as well as other relevant training. Not least, the position also offers a chance for experience and knowledge exchange with experienced colleagues from various professional groups across the entire Health and Care department with 90 employees, as well as the opportunity to contribute to one of the world's leading crisis and disaster organizations.

About you

We are looking for someone who:

  • Is a licensed psychologist
  • Has experience with PTSD and trauma-focused treatments

It is an advantage if you:

  • Are bilingual/multilingual
  • Have worked with or have experience with our target group
  • Have experience in the non-profit sector and working with volunteers

You who apply share the values of the Swedish Red Cross.

More about us

The Swedish Red Cross operates treatment centers for war-injured and tortured individuals in five locations in Sweden: Gothenburg, Skövde, Uppsala, Skellefteå, and Malmö. The goal of the Swedish Red Cross Treatment Center is to provide support and care to individuals with a refugee background who have been exposed to war trauma and torture, so they can reclaim their mental and physical health. In addition to clinical treatment work, we work to spread knowledge by offering training and information to various target groups, both externally and internally.

Many of the patients have themselves been subjected to war and flight-related violence, abuse, and threats. Others have been traumatized by witnessing how loved ones have been affected.

Our team consists of 5 psychologists, a physiotherapist, a social worker, a peer supporter, a project peer support developer, an administrator, and a manager (psychologist). We are located in pleasant premises at Rullagergatan 6 B in Gothenburg. At the same address, a Care Agency for undocumented individuals opened in March 2025. During the spring, we have created some common working methods to meet our target groups. We collaborate with local branches of the Swedish Red Cross, youth associations, and other civil society organizations.

Additional information

The position is a permanent full-time position based at our office at Rullagergatan 6 B in Gothenburg. Start in February or by agreement. We apply a 6-month probationary period.

How we recruit

We welcome your application by January 14.

Please feel free to contact the recruiting manager Katrin Sepp at [email protected] (mailto:[email protected]) (after January 5 due to holiday leave) if you have questions about the position.

The Swedish Red Cross strives to be an inclusive organization with employees who contribute to diversity in perspectives, experience, and background. We believe this makes us more relevant. Therefore, we are happy to recruit individuals from diverse ethnic and social backgrounds, gender identities and expressions, beliefs, ages, abilities, and sexual orientations.

Our recruitment process starts with an initial selection based on an established requirement profile and is followed by interviews and, in some cases, online tests as well as background checks and reference checks.

As the Swedish Red Cross is part of the "Inter-Agency Scheme for the Disclosure of Safeguarding-related Misconduct" to protect our sector from sexual abuse, we ask specific questions regarding this to your references. Final candidates may also be screened against EU and UN sanction lists.

Feel free to visit our career page to get to know the Swedish Red Cross a little better. Here you will also find information about conditions, our culture, and contact details for the trade unions represented at our organization.

We kindly request no calls from salespeople regarding recruitment-related services.
