Are you a medical student in your 7th, 8th, or 9th semester? Do you want to gain practical experience in medicine and geriatrics this summer? We are now looking for 4 dedicated medical assistants who want to be part of our team at the Department of Medicine and Geriatrics, Värnamo Hospital.

The Role of Medical Assistant

You will work in a team with the following professions: nurses, nursing assistants, resident doctors, and senior physicians.

Your tasks will be divided into two-week intervals where you will work night shifts on the ward with nursing staff for two weeks, followed by two weeks of daytime work with doctors. Examples of tasks include:

• Practical nursing
• NEWS checks and responding to them, documenting as needed
• Monitoring fluid balance and documenting
• Venipuncture
• Participating in ward rounds
• Making simple assessments and journal notes under supervision

This position will not only be a merit for your future medical career but you will also be a significant asset to the Department of Medicine and Geriatrics during the summer.

You will receive a 2-day introduction in week 24 with scenario training and education, as well as a training day with doctors. The introduction includes hands-on shadowing so you can familiarize yourself with the clinic before you start working. We look favorably on if you have the opportunity to shadow during the spring.

The Department of Medicine and Geriatrics is the largest clinic at Värnamo Hospital with many services under one roof. We have three inpatient units with different focuses on medical specialties. The clinic also has outpatient care, including medical day care and the dialysis unit. Our outpatient services encompass all medical specialties.

Your Profile

We are looking for you who are studying to become a doctor and are in semesters 7-9. We want to offer you an educational and different summer where you can train your clinical eye and work from different perspectives and professions. You will work 6-8 weeks this summer starting in week 25, but already in week 24, you will attend a two-day introduction. The work includes both day and night shifts.

As a person, you are calm, stable, and can easily adapt to the various circumstances that often prevail in a hospital. Since you will be working in a team, we would like you to have an easy time collaborating and being responsive to both colleagues and patients. We place great importance on personal suitability.

Please be sure to include any internships and work experience in your application. It is also important that you attach your diploma. If you have not yet completed your studies, please attach a LADOK extract or other certificate showing completed courses.
