Project Description

Research Subject: Electrical and System Engineering

As part of the Marie Curie ITN project REACT, KTH will focus on developing a neuromorphic architecture based on memristors, with particular emphasis on the BCPNN model developed at KTH.

Other neuromorphic models will also be investigated. The doctoral student will contribute to improving an existing simulation framework to validate memristor-based models in terms of functionality and accuracy, while taking into account non-ideality and variability in component properties. Additionally, the candidate will develop fragments of memristor-based structures such as SiLago blocks ("Silicon Lego blocks") to enable rapid assembly of memristor-based computational structures.

Supervision

Prof. Ahmed Hemani is proposed to supervise the doctoral student. A decision will be made upon admission.

Eligibility for Admission

To be admitted to doctoral studies (Chapter 7, Section 39 of the Higher Education Ordinance), the applicant must have basic eligibility:

  • Mobility rules – Candidates must not have been resident or had their main activity (work, studies, etc.) in Sweden for more than 12 months during the 3 years immediately preceding the recruitment date.
  • Completed a master's degree, or
  • Completed course requirements of at least 240 higher education credits, of which at least 60 higher education credits at the advanced level, or
  • Acquired equivalent knowledge in some other way, within or outside the country.

Additional Requirements for the Position:

  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering (EE), by the start of employment.
  • Good knowledge of design flows for analog/mixed-signal ICs and hardware description languages (Verilog-A/Verilog), preferably in Cadence or similar EDA environments.
  • Strong programming skills in Python, MATLAB, or C++ for simulating neural networks, data analysis, and modeling.
  • Documented research experience through publications, academic projects, or advanced courses in neuromorphic computing, memristive components, or brain-inspired architectures.
  • Knowledge in machine learning, analog/mixed-signal design, and/or memristive components.
  • Excellent ability to communicate and present in English, both spoken and written, as required in daily work.
