The Department of Molecular Biology is now seeking two teaching assistants

The Department of Molecular Biology is now seeking two teaching assistants for the Master's Program in Biotechnology for a fixed-term position of five months, comprising 10 percent of full-time, starting in January 2026 or by agreement.

Responsibilities

As a teaching assistant, you will be employed at Umeå University and work on tasks related to the Master's Program in Biotechnology at the Department of Molecular Biology. Responsibilities may include joint program activities such as study visits, inviting speakers to inspirational seminars, and outreach activities, such as presenting the program to school classes, participating in outreach events, and ensuring that the program's website is up to date.

The work may also involve communication and program-related surveys with current and graduated students, known as alumni, as well as creating and maintaining a LinkedIn page for both alumni and current students.

Qualifications

We are looking for candidates who meet the following criteria:

  • You are registered as an active student in the Master's Program in Biotechnology at Umeå University.
  • You have good social skills and a strong interest in improving and developing the biotechnology program.
  • You have the ability to work both independently and in a team.
  • You have at least 45 higher education credits within the program.

Significant emphasis will be placed on personal qualities. The selection among applicants will be based on merits, suitability, and experience of similar tasks. We strive for a balanced gender distribution and therefore encourage both female and male applicants.

Eligibility

Employment as a teaching assistant is governed by the Higher Education Ordinance (Chapter 5). Eligible for employment as a teaching assistant is the student who is admitted to education at the undergraduate or advanced level at a university or college (HF Chapter 5 §10).
