Are you our next diesel locomotive mechanic?
Do you have experience working on cars, trucks, or other vehicles with diesel engines? Now you have the chance to take a step up to something bigger! As a mechanic on diesel locomotives in our workshop in Kiruna, you will work with powerful machines and exciting technology. Become part of our dedicated team and develop in an environment where your contribution truly matters!
The most important job of the future
We want to lead the transition of our industry towards a sustainable future. Just as we want to change the world, we want to develop everyone who is with us on this journey, both personally and professionally. Do you want to help shape the future of the world's mining and mineral industry?
LKAB Malmtrafik
LKAB Malmtrafik is responsible for loading, unloading, and transporting LKAB's iron ore products on the Malmbanan railway. We transport from the mines in Kiruna and Malmberget to the ports in Luleå and Narvik, as well as to SSAB in Luleå.
Your role
As a diesel locomotive mechanic, you play a crucial role in our workshop in Kiruna. Your work includes both preventive and emergency maintenance of our locomotive fleet to ensure traffic safety and operational reliability. You will perform scheduled inspections and repairs, as well as handle urgent interventions, which may sometimes require you to go out to the location where the locomotive is situated. The work involves problem-solving and identifying effective solutions to quickly get the locomotives back in operation. An important part of the role is to document completed work and ensure that it meets the safety requirements set by both LKAB and the Swedish Transport Administration. You will work both independently and in collaboration with a team of mechanics, engineers, planners, and leaders to develop and improve our work processes. Since the work often takes place alone, both in the workshop and in the field, it requires a flexible and solution-oriented approach. The role also offers opportunities for development through both internal and external training.
What you bring with you
You are self-driven and used to taking responsibility for driving your work forward, which is crucial in a role where you often work alone during your shift. You enjoy working independently and are confident in making your own decisions to solve problems and ensure that the work maintains high quality. Your working style is characterized by structure and precision, while you are also a team player who enjoys collaborating with others to achieve common goals. You are flexible and solution-oriented, which is essential in a role where tasks can vary from day to day.
We expect you to have:
- Experience working on vehicles, preferably diesel engines
- Basic knowledge of electrical systems and/or automation
- High school education with a practical focus in vehicles, mechanics, electrical engineering, or equivalent
- Proficiency in Swedish, both spoken and written
- Driving license B
- Since the position involves safety-critical tasks in the railway sector, you need to meet health requirements according to the Swedish Transport Agency's regulations (TSFS 2019:112 §8, points 3 and 4). This includes good vision, normal color vision, and good hearing, which means a health examination will be conducted at the end of the recruitment process.
It is an advantage if you have:
- Training in heavy vehicle mechanics
- Professional experience in electrical systems, heavy vehicle mechanics, or railways
Information about your application

Therefore, take the time to answer the questions carefully; they are an important part of the process.
Warm welcome with your application!
We review applications continuously before the Christmas holiday, but interviews will take place only after week 2 when we are back.
