Welcome to Askersund Parish
A parish where tradition meets renewal. Here, your presence, courage, and drive can make a real difference. You will have the opportunity to lead in a context where the church, municipality, and civil society collaborate for the benefit of people.
You step into an organization that is now ready for continued development and has the will to shape the future of parish life. The parish prioritizes work with children and youth, volunteers, and sustainability. In the work team and among the elected representatives, the work is guided by the core values we have jointly developed: respect, responsibility, inclusiveness, and loyalty.
We have many engaged volunteer collaborators and elected representatives, as well as a rich musical life. Music plays an important role in worship and can be a pathway to faith for many.
About Askersund Parish
Askersund Parish was established four years ago and includes three congregations: Askersund-Hammar Congregation, Lerbäck Congregation, and Snavlunda Congregation, with a total of seven church buildings where we continuously celebrate worship in three of them. The small town of Askersund meets the nearby Tiveden forests, the archipelago of Lake Vättern, and the vast countryside.
The parish has approximately 7500 church members. As the parish priest, you are the spiritual leader and manager of about 30 employees.
We are looking for a parish priest who wants to lead us with both security and sensitivity into the future. Our parish stands on a solid foundation of living traditions and a stable organization, but also on the threshold of something new. Here, there are three congregations with different expressions and characteristics that now need to continue developing into a unified whole.
Job Responsibilities
In the role of parish priest, you have overall responsibility for the congregation's activities, employees, and finances. You lead the work together with two team leaders, being a present and engaged manager who creates a work environment characterized by collaboration, clarity, and participation. Together with employees, church council, elected representatives, and congregation members, you work to develop and strengthen the life and activities of the congregation.
The position also includes the usual duties of a priest, such as celebrating services, conducting church ceremonies, and meeting with people of all ages.
The position is based in Askersund. Work in the evenings, weekends, and holidays is included.
Qualifications
We are looking for someone who:
- Is ordained according to the Church of Sweden's order.
- Holds a qualifying parish priest education.
- Has a B driver's license as travel is included in the position.
- Has basic knowledge of the Office suite and works comfortably in digital environments (Teams, email, etc.).
- Has good knowledge of Swedish and English, both spoken and written.
We would like you to have previous experience working in a leadership position where you have had personnel responsibility, budget responsibility, and operational responsibility.
Personal Qualities
We are looking for someone with a strong theological foundation and clarity in leadership - a person who, with engagement and presence, wants to inspire and guide both employees and congregation members. You have the ability to see the whole in the parish's mission and can balance strategic thinking with operational work in a wise and inclusive way.
You are positively inclined to work ecumenically and see the value in collaboration across boundaries, where the church can be a natural meeting place for faith, community, and engagement.
As a leader, you are structured, self-driven, and financially aware. You have the ability to create order, clarity, and participation in the organization. At the same time, you are relationship-building and thrive in meeting people.
You have an inclusive view of humanity and see diversity as a strength. We see it as a given that you enjoy being a parish priest and actively participate in the parish's activities.
We place great emphasis on personal suitability and you certainly share the fundamental values of the Church of Sweden!
Warm welcome to your application.
