Traveling Mechanic at DESAB

Are you a mechanic who thrives in dynamic environments, enjoys traveling, and wants a job where no two days are alike? Then you might be the one we are looking for!

At DESAB, you will be part of a growing marine technology company that works with everything from engine refurbishments and propeller shafts to complete propulsion systems on vessels. Our assignments span the globe – from Nordic shipyards to tropical ports – and we are where our customers' boats and challenges are.

We are currently looking for more traveling mechanics who want to join our team!

Job Responsibilities

As a traveling mechanic with us, you will work broadly with mechanical tasks within the marine industry. You will, among other things:

  • Perform corrective maintenance and repair jobs on vessels – from engine to propeller
  • Work with refurbishment, assembly, and welding of marine components
  • Participate in both short and long-term projects, where assignments can last from a few days to several weeks
  • Travel to various shipyards, ports, and vessels around the world – where the problems are, we are there
  • Sometimes lead the work on-site as a foreman or project-leading installer, sometimes actively participate in the operational work alongside colleagues

The work is varied and requires you to quickly adapt to new situations, environments, and people. One day you might troubleshoot an engine in Norway – the next day you are at a shipyard in Germany or on a boat heading to Svalbard.

Our Offer

At DESAB, you get more than just a regular job – you gain a role that is both varied and challenging. You travel to different projects and solve technical problems while developing within a broad and technically interesting industry. We value community and collaboration even when working remotely, and you will have great responsibility and trust to drive tasks on-site. The work can be intense, but we strive for a balance with recovery and rest between assignments.

We are looking for someone with a mechanical background and a genuine interest in technology and machinery. As important as your technical skills is your ability to communicate and collaborate with people in various situations.

To thrive in this role, we see that you:

  • Have experience in mechanical work, for example, in workshops, industry, agriculture, or other machine-related activities
  • Are solution-oriented, practical, and can take initiative when problems arise
  • Are social, unpretentious, and can meet different people in an open and respectful manner
  • Have order and structure, while being flexible and able to quickly adapt to changing conditions

We prefer that you have experience with traveling work so that you know what it entails and that it suits you. It is also important that you have a positive attitude towards working in different locations and can think creatively when materials or parts are not always readily available.

You need to be able to communicate in Swedish and English and have a driver's license.

More About the Position and Recruitment Process

As a traveling installer at DESAB, you are usually out on assignments for about a week at a time, but projects can vary from three days up to six or seven weeks (sometimes even longer). The work consists of both planned assignments and urgent repairs, often at shipyards or directly on board vessels.

The jobs take place both in Sweden and abroad, most commonly in Northern Europe but sometimes further away. You will be part of an experienced team where we always help each other, and there is always someone to contact even when you are alone with a problem at the dock in a new port.

We are looking for several new traveling installers and are recruiting continuously. If you have questions about the position, you are warmly welcome to contact CEO William Ahdrian at 031 350 24 15 or [email protected]. Apply by clicking on "Apply now" and fill out the form with relevant selection questions. If you wish, you can also attach your CV, but it is not a requirement.

We look forward to your application!
