Forestry Consultant at Västernorrland District

Västernorrland District is looking for a forestry consultant to join our team.

Currently, the focus is on contributing to our work with supervision of the Forestry Act and the Environmental Code. You will have frequent contact with landowners and employees in the forestry sector, as well as with other stakeholders connected to the forest. The position as a forestry consultant involves varied and stimulating tasks with opportunities for competence development. You will be part of a team with experienced supervisory officers who primarily work within the borders of Västernorrland, but collaboration across geographical and organizational boundaries occurs.

Responsibilities

Initially, you will mainly work on processing felling notifications and related supervision cases according to the Forestry Act and the Environmental Code. This primarily involves preparing decisions on supervision cases. The tasks are mainly carried out from the office, but field visits throughout the year also occur. Contacts with landowners, forestry, authorities, and other organizations are a natural part of the job, and you are also expected to contribute to the development of our operations.

Depending on your skills and the needs of the operation, other tasks may also become relevant. Participation in advisory activities, inventories, projects, or our commissioned operations are examples of different areas that forestry consultants at the Swedish Forest Agency work with. Sometimes the work requires travel involving overnight stays in other locations, and your daily work area covers the entire Västernorrland County.

Qualifications

You have a forestry or natural science university education or other education and experience relevant to our field of work. Supervision activities involve a certain work pace, and it is important that you enjoy having multiple cases ongoing simultaneously and that you are comfortable expressing yourself in writing. We prefer that you have experience in both forestry conservation issues and forest production. Experience in official activities and knowledge of forest-dwelling species is advantageous. We also value good knowledge of geographic information systems and general IT skills.

We place great emphasis on your personal qualities. You plan, organize, and prioritize your tasks in a way that contributes to the goals of the operation and the workgroup. Being able to weigh complex information, analyze it, and act appropriately on it are natural abilities for you. The ongoing legal developments in the Swedish Forest Agency's supervision work may involve both minor and major changes in the content of the tasks, which places relatively high demands on your flexibility and adaptability. It is important that you are communicative, pedagogical, and that you can engage in dialogue with various actors and stakeholders both within and outside the forestry sector in a trustworthy manner.

A driver's license is required.

Conditions

We offer a permanent position at 100% employment, starting with a 6-month probationary period. Entry is on April 1, 2025, or by agreement.

We apply individual salary setting, distance work agreements, and trust-based working hours.

Stationed at the office in Härnösand.
