Swedish Geological Institute (SGI) is looking for staff for the environmental laboratory
The Swedish Geological Institute (SGI) is an expert authority working for safe, efficient, and sustainable construction and sustainable use of land and natural resources. Our tasks include preventing landslides, collapses, and coastal erosion. SGI is also working on developing new methods for remediating contaminated areas. SGI belongs to the Ministry of Climate and Enterprise and has a total of about 100 employees. The main office is located in Linköping, with offices in Stockholm, Gothenburg, and Malmö.
The position is placed in the Soil Chemistry unit within the Department of Land and Water Environment. The department primarily works with applied research, technology development, and knowledge building in the remediation and restoration of contaminated areas.
The unit's tasks include knowledge development in remediation methods, environmental chemical laboratory activities to support research activities, development of environmental chemical laboratory methods, as well as some commissioned work and advice on environmental chemical issues.
At the environmental laboratory, we primarily work on characterizing various materials such as contaminated soil, by-products, and waste regarding leaching properties, immobilization capacity, bioavailability, and reactivity. The operations are accredited according to SS-EN ISO/IEC 17025.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
You will work together with other employees at the environmental laboratory and the department on research and method development as well as routine laboratory assignments. The work includes participating in the evaluation of results and contributing to the writing of scientific articles and publications.
The work may also involve participation in seminars and courses focused on contaminated areas and providing support to the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency, county administrative boards, and municipalities in laboratory technical issues.
In close collaboration with the unit manager, you will work on managing the daily operations at the environmental laboratory regarding resource planning, task distribution, and administrative tasks. You will be responsible for the application and compliance of the laboratory's management system regarding technical quality.
QUALIFICATIONS
The following qualifications are required for the position:
- university or college degree in environmental chemistry or similar education deemed equivalent by the employer
- experience in environmental technology or other similar technical laboratory work
- experience working independently on various types of projects
- experience in handling and statistically processing analysis results
- good ability to express yourself well in both spoken and written Swedish and English.
It is advantageous if you have:
- worked with research and development
- been a co-author of scientific publications
- experience in standardization work or quality work according to ISO 17025
- experience in the application and compliance regarding technical quality of laboratory management systems.
