Librarian Wanted at Bellevue High School

We are looking for an engaged and creative school librarian who wants to help shape the future at Bellevue High School. As our first school librarian, you will play a key role in building a school library with a strong pedagogical focus, an accessible and inspiring place that provides our students with tools to grow in their learning. In close collaboration with teachers and other staff, you will work to integrate the library into teaching and develop methods that support students' learning and development.

Responsibilities

Reading development and reading stimulation are central parts of your mission, where you will drive various reading-promoting and language development projects with the students. Scheduled reading and language development work is included in your tasks, as well as supporting teachers and students in their literature and media usage. You will actively participate in planning, implementing, and following up on teaching and projects, as well as leading educational activities in both classrooms and the library. Additionally, you will organize cultural activities and collaborate with both internal and external actors in the field.

In your role as the librarian, you will work on the development of the entire school's ICT-promoting work. You will support staff and students in this development by:

• Developing and updating the school's and library's social media
• Being responsible for creating and updating search guides
• Collaborating with teaching teachers by planning and conducting instruction in information retrieval and source criticism
• Guiding teachers and other staff in the school's ICT work and the use of digital information sources
• Continuously developing physical and digital functions for literature dissemination
• Being responsible for media work such as purchasing, cataloging, weeding, and display

Qualifications

Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree (180 higher education credits) with 90 credits in the main subject of library and information science
• Experience working with youth
• Good digital competence
• Very good Swedish in speech and writing

Desirable:

• Pedagogical education or similar
• Completed ICT courses within the framework of elective courses (30 credits)
• Experience working as a librarian
• Experience driving reading projects
• Knowledge of additional languages

As a person, you are communicative, service-oriented, and creative as you daily encounter new questions and information problems in conversations with visitors. You meet visitors attentively and accommodatingly, and to break down information problems into different parts and see connections, you need to be analytical. The work involves collecting and structuring various media, which requires you to be organized and able to efficiently prioritize activities.

Bellevue High School is a school for students with few or no grades at all. The school's goal is to help students move on to further studies or work.
