Lund University was founded in 1666 and is consistently ranked as one of the world's leading universities. It has approximately 47,000 students and more than 8,800 employees in Lund, Helsingborg, and Malmö. We unite in our efforts to understand, explain, and improve our world and the conditions of humanity.
Lund University welcomes applicants with diverse backgrounds and experiences. Gender equality, equal opportunities, and diversity are fundamental principles for all parts of our operations.
The Mathematics Center has about 150 employees, of which about 40 are at the Department of Mathematics, Faculty of Science, where the position is located.
At the Mathematics Center, research is conducted in algebra, complex analysis, harmonic analysis, operator theory, partial differential equations, dynamical systems, differential geometry, computational mathematics, and numerical analysis, image analysis, machine learning and computer vision, as well as mathematical statistics, probability theory, and mathematics education. The education of students leads to bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees, as well as to engineering degrees at Lund University of Technology.
The research group “Computational Mathematics for a Sustainable World” works on designing and analyzing numerical methods for simulations of gas flows and their interaction with surrounding media. These methods are used to design wind turbines, understand turbulent combustion in jet engines using renewable fuels, and improve climate simulations and weather predictions. The group is actively involved in the national strategic research areas eSSENCE and MERGE and collaborates with the Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute (SMHI) and Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC).
