The role of a teacher at a folk high school requires flexibility, a solution-oriented approach, and good collaboration and communication skills both with colleagues and course participants.

We recognize the importance of supportive relationships, and as a teacher, it is therefore important that you have a sense of meeting people where they are.

Our general courses are thematic and interdisciplinary. We study in small cohesive groups where participants have responsibility and influence over their studies.

About the role

Your main task will be to teach general courses in mathematics at the elementary and high school levels, but teaching in other subjects and program leadership may be relevant depending on your profile.

You will be part of the school's general teacher group. The position includes pedagogical and administrative coordination as well as social pedagogical work related to the participants.

You must be qualified to teach mathematics at the elementary and high school levels or possess equivalent knowledge. We welcome applicants who are qualified to teach natural science subjects.

It is also an advantage if you are a trained folk high school teacher and/or have experience working at a folk high school or other adult education.

Employment type: Seasonal position, permanent employment with a probationary period.

About the organization

The Nordic Folk High School was founded in 1947. The background was a time of war, totalitarian regimes, and closed borders in the Nordic countries and Europe. The founders of the school wanted to create a pan-Nordic folk high school open to all young people in the Nordic region. The school also had a societal mission: to highlight Nordic values such as openness, freedom, and democracy.

Today, more than 75 years after its inception, the Nordic Folk High School is still characterized by the search for dialogue and human encounters. We believe that all people have equal value, and the "Nordic" for us is about standing up for just that. The school is religiously and politically independent and is run by an association.
