In Region Gotland, you can develop and grow, both as an individual and together with others. When you work with us, you contribute to making Gotland an even better place for people in all walks of life. We make each other better.
Pre- and Postoperative Department
Within the area of Anesthesia/Operation/Intensive Care, acute and planned surgical care, anesthesia, pre- and postoperative care, and intensive care are conducted in close cooperation with other departments at Visby Hospital.
The department has a wide clinical scope and includes patients of all ages. Approximately 3600 surgeries are performed annually in general surgery, orthopedics, urology, gynecology, obstetrics, and ENT.
The pre- and postoperative department is part of the AnOp unit. The department operates on weekdays from Monday to Thursday during the day and evening, and on Fridays during the day. During other times, the ICU takes care of postoperative care. The preoperative unit has five places, and the postoperative unit has nine monitoring places but can accommodate up to twelve patients. The throughput of inpatient and outpatient patients averages 15-20 per day.
Your Responsibilities
In the pre- and postoperative department, you will be offered a varied job as a nurse and play an important role in patient care. Seeing and meeting patients who are often anxious before surgery requires instilling calm and security in a high-tech environment.
You will work closely with your colleagues in pre- and postoperative care, as well as with anesthesia and operating room nurses, anesthesiologists, and surgeons.
In the preoperative unit, nurses and nursing assistants work together. Together, you will ensure that preparations for specific surgeries are completed and documented.
The primary task of the postoperative unit is to monitor the patient's vital functions during the early recovery period after surgery and anesthesia. Both the surgical procedure and anesthesia can cause discomfort postoperatively for the patient, such as pain, nausea, and anxiety. The postoperative care should alleviate discomfort and provide optimal comfort and security for the patient. Surgeries vary from minor and simpler procedures where patients do not require as much postoperative care, to larger surgeries that require more advanced management.
Currently, eight staff members work together every day in the pre- and postoperative department. There is a wealth of experience and commitment within the team. Our small size allows you to quickly build a network and establish relationships, contributing to good collaboration and a positive atmosphere in the unit.
Who Are You?
You who are applying are a licensed nurse with experience in postoperative monitoring or emergency care, or a specialist nurse in anesthesia care or intensive care.
We are looking for someone who is curious and interested in working across all specialties in our operations.
You enjoy working in a team but also have the ability to take initiative and work independently. You have a positive attitude and are an open person who can quickly adapt to what the situation requires and communicate information clearly. You are curious and creative; good collaboration and strong relationships with your colleagues are important to you. You understand that we are each other's work environment and that we all need to contribute to create a pleasant everyday life.
It is important to us that you, as an employee, are given the opportunity to grow and develop with the organization. Therefore, we strive to find various creative working methods and learning forms to maintain continuous development and skill enhancement.
We place great emphasis on personal suitability.
Before a hiring decision is made, a background check will be conducted through an extract from the criminal record.
