Care for Persons with Disabilities

In our care services, we provide support and services to individuals with various disabilities. We work to facilitate and support our users in managing their daily practicalities. The goal is for users to achieve as independent a life as possible. With the individual at the center, we operate based on our values: trust, care, and participation.

Are you interested in being an addition to the family on certain weekdays or weekends? Then this is for you. We are looking for those who have the time, interest, and commitment to support a child or youth with disabilities.

Your Responsibilities

Being a short-term family means that a child/youth with a disability will visit during planned weekends or weekdays. Visits to the short-term family provide valuable relief for relatives while the child/youth gets the opportunity for a change of environment.

Being a short-term family is not an employment but a mission. As a short-term family, you will receive a fee as compensation for the mission and a cost reimbursement to cover expenses for food and activities. The fee and cost reimbursement follow the guidelines set by Sweden's municipalities and regions.

What happens after you apply? We review applications continuously, and before a mission can begin, we need to conduct an investigation of the family before starting the short-term family mission.

Who Are You?

As a short-term family, you do not need any special education; what is important is that you enjoy working with children and youth and want to make a difference for someone. You do not need previous experience as a short-term family, but it is advantageous if you have experience with children or youth with disabilities. It is also beneficial if you have an education focused on children, care, or pedagogy.

When working with children and youth, you must, by law, provide an extract from the police criminal record, here (https://polisen.se/tjanster-tillstand/belastningsregistret/barn-med-funktionsnedsattning/). It may take up to two weeks to receive your extract. You may send your application to us before the extract arrives. If you are called for an interview, bring the extract with you or submit it later, but you cannot start working until you have shown it in original form.

About the Social Administration

As part of Region Gotland, we at the social administration work with social interventions such as counseling, support, and treatment. Our areas of operation include social services, home care, elderly care, and care for persons with disabilities throughout Gotland. Around the clock, we meet people of all ages and with various needs; children, families, adults, and the elderly. Together, we enable good conditions for care, support, and services throughout life.
