Our Operations

Uppsala Biobank is a center established between Region Uppsala/Uppsala University and Uppsala University Hospital. The center is a research-supporting infrastructure for biobank issues closely linked to clinical activities. We offer advice, process biobank applications, and provide services for the collection, storage, and retrieval of biobank samples collected for research purposes. We are located in Hubben in the middle of Uppsala Science Park and work closely with Clinical Chemistry and Pharmacology at the Academic Laboratory. The center has a total of 26 employees. Uppsala Biobank hosts the research infrastructure Nordic Childhood Leukemia Biobank (NLBB) on behalf of the Childhood Cancer Foundation. This means that we continuously receive, register, and prepare cells and make samples available for research.

We are now looking for 1-2 new employees to strengthen the part of the operation that works with sample handling at the biobank's laboratory (Uppsala Biolab) and at the ice hotel where the frozen samples are stored and handled during collection and retrieval.

Your Mission

All types of sample handling that the laboratory performs and will introduce. The work is carried out manually or with automated liquid handling instruments, so-called pipetting robots. New requests will continuously come in for new sample types and protocols. DNA extraction from whole blood and DNA/RNA extraction from prepared cells for NLBB and other research projects. Work in the biobank's ice hotel with the insertion and retrieval of samples in -80°C freezers and work with automatic freezers is part of the mission. Some heavy lifting occurs in connection with work in the freezers. All activities are registered in various types of data systems such as Biobank's LIMS, FreezerPro, and FlexLab Chemistry. The work is performed both individually and in collaboration with other employees.

Your Qualifications

We prefer that you have an education focused on biochemistry or medicine and experience in laboratory work, preferably with human biological material. Particularly meritorious is experience with methods for separating cells from blood and bone marrow samples as well as DNA/RNA extraction from prepared cells. Experience with instruments for automated sample handling is also an advantage. Some of our clients are English-speaking, so you need to be able to communicate in both Swedish and English, both orally and in writing. We work with a high level of service to our clients and expect the same from you.

We believe that both experiences and personalities are important in a well-functioning team. Therefore, your personal qualities will be highly weighted in the appointment of this position. We value personal qualities such as being meticulous, having a positive attitude, and good collaboration skills. Since the workgroup is small, you need to be flexible and have your own drive, as well as be able to handle both routine tasks and work with new methods.

We Offer

We offer a permanent position at 100%, with a 6-month probationary period. Start date by agreement.
