Expert in Urban Forests and Natural Areas

As an expert, you play a vital role in the organization to manage and develop our urban forests and natural areas. This entails an engaging daily routine with a mix of strategic decisions and more direct actions.

Your Responsibilities

Your main task is to manage and develop our urban forests and nature close to urban areas. Based on a given budget, you are responsible for creating maintenance plans. You plan and order actions primarily from external contractors but also from the city's labor market unit. Common actions may include selective thinning, clearing, risk tree management, and freeing up space. Since the work involves handling urgent and complex situations, such as tree risk assessments, good judgment and confidence in your decisions are crucial. You are also responsible for the maintenance of outdoor facilities such as barbecue areas, trail markings, and windbreaks. You are skilled at driving the work from a long-term perspective and strive for a balance between social and biological values.

Your Competence

Your background is in a relevant field, such as forest management and urban nature. You have a post-secondary education in conservation, forestry, or biology, or you possess substantial work experience in the field. Your strong communication skills are beneficial in dialogues with residents, contractors, authorities, and colleagues. Since you spend equal time in the office and outdoors to follow up on various assignments, you hold a B driver's license. Experience in procurement and ordering is advantageous.

In the Operations Department, we focus on driving and developing the operation and maintenance of the city's outdoor environments. We have engineers working with parks, streets, lighting, technical systems, and snow management. As a forest ranger, you will be part of a team with operations engineers focusing on parks and handling more complex cases together. You collaborate with colleagues who have specialized knowledge in biology and with external parties such as the County Administrative Board.
