Support Assistant for Vintergatan in Umeå Municipality

The Disability Care Service in Umeå Municipality aims to be a resource that liberates and strengthens people's ability to live an independent life through proximity and interaction.

Vintergatan is a new group home according to LSS, focusing on intellectual disabilities, opening in August/September 2025.

Two children aged 9–13 with autism diagnoses will reside in the home.

We are now looking for eleven employees who want to help start up the home. Five positions for day/evening/weekend and six positions for awake night shifts. Are you the one we are looking for?

Your Responsibilities

As a support assistant, you will work with colleagues to support the children in their daily lives and contribute to a safe home environment. The children have significant needs for help and support in all situations such as personal care, meals, walks, play situations, and other daily activities.

The job includes typical household chores such as cooking, cleaning, and dishwashing. Contact and cooperation with parents is also an important part of the work.

Before you start your position, you will undergo a comprehensive introduction with other colleagues and the manager, which includes training on how to interact with children with autism.

Outbursts and self-harming behavior may occur. Coordination with other services may take place in the future.

About You

You have a good ability to collaborate and maintain a professional demeanor towards the children, relatives, and other stakeholders around the children. You are engaged and willing to share our values and work towards set goals while focusing on continuous improvements.

To communicate with the children, relatives, and colleagues, write and access care documentation, and receive medication delegation, you must have good knowledge of the Swedish language in both spoken and written form.

Requirements

• Care and nursing program, child and leisure program, or other education deemed equivalent by the employer.

Meritorious

• Experience working in the field of intellectual disabilities.
• Experience with low-arousal responses in situations of threat and violence.
• Experience with alternative and augmentative communication (AAC).
• Experience working with aggressive children or adults.
• Experience working with children or adults with autism.
