We need more women in the construction industry! Clearly, we in the industry have not succeeded in creating change and proving the opposite – that our industry is for everyone. At Peab, we have therefore decided to take the lead in making our industry more equal. That’s why we have started Byggåret – our apprenticeship program for women. During the program, you who have the interest, drive, and curiosity will learn everything required for a career in one of Sweden's most enjoyable and sought-after professions. No prior knowledge is required. Furthermore, you will receive a salary throughout the training. Now it’s time for the third round of Byggåret, and we have about 25 apprenticeship positions in 16 locations, from Kiruna in the north to Malmö in the south. The program starts on September 1, 2025.

What does it mean to be an apprentice?

Being an apprentice means that you work and study at the same time. The job is full-time, and during working hours, you will also attend a vocational theoretical course that lasts throughout the year. As an apprentice, you will have a mentor at the workplace, and together you will work on one or more Peab projects. One day a week is set aside for your studies. During Byggåret, you will complete the basic training aimed either at carpenters or road and construction workers. In some locations, we only offer apprenticeship positions as carpenters, in others only as road and construction workers. In a few locations, we have positions in both areas. Read more at www.byggaret.se (http://www.byggaret.se) about the different professions.

After your basic training, your qualification period as an apprentice continues for another 36 months before you can obtain your professional certificate. All of this is regulated by the Vocational Training Agreement and the joint organization of the Construction Industry's Vocational Board, BYN.

What options are available in my city?

In Jönköping, there is an opportunity to apply for an apprenticeship as a carpenter. As a carpenter, you work in construction and help build and renovate all types of houses. For example, residential buildings, swimming pools, and preschools. We also offer construction service services to private individuals.

Who should apply to Byggåret?

This is an initiative to bring more women into the construction industry and our journey towards a more equal industry. We want to emphasize that you do not need any previous experience in the construction industry. However, you need a strong desire to develop within a craft profession and see a future in our industry.

  • The most important thing is that you have a strong personal drive, are curious as a person, and that you enjoy working in teams and want to help build tomorrow's society.
  • You are not afraid to get your hands dirty when needed, and you feel best when you can be outdoors and work with your whole body.
  • Since the apprenticeship program alternates theory with practice, it is important that you have the ability to take responsibility for your studies and absorb the information needed to develop during the practice. You need a PC with Windows to complete the theoretical training.
  • You must be over 18 at the start of the program.
  • A driving license (B) is a requirement.
