Train Driver at Green Cargo in Kalmar

Green Cargo is the largest freight railway operator in Sweden. 98 percent of our transports are conducted with electric trains that have a very low climate impact. About the Position

The train driver position in Kalmar is an independent, responsible, and varied job. Your tasks consist of half train driving and half shunting. You primarily drive routes between Kalmar and a customer in Mönsterås, where shunting is performed at both locations. Working hours are Monday to Friday, and you drive trains on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday from 06:50 to 15:30. Tuesday is an office day. In Kalmar, you work alone at the station, but you meet customers and other drivers during the week. Important qualities for thriving in this role are being self-driven, responsible, and motivated.

The position is a permanent full-time employment initiated by a 6-month probationary period with a start date according to agreement.

Who are we looking for?

You are either a newly trained train driver from YH or an experienced train driver. If you have experience driving freight trains or are trained in shunting, this is an advantage. You need to have a driving license (B).

You have a high safety mindset and can easily absorb new instructions. You can translate new theoretical knowledge into practice and enjoy following rules and routines, understanding their importance. You are collaborative, have good communication skills, and take great personal responsibility for your tasks. Since the work is performed in a safety-critical role, you need to communicate and understand instructions fluently in Swedish.

The work can often be physically demanding, so it is important that you meet the medical requirements set for safety-critical positions. You have a train driver's certificate and can present an approved diploma after your training.

Your employment begins with a company-specific training program lasting 12 weeks, preparing you for our operations and our locomotives. The training includes theory, practice, and examination. Green Cargo covers travel and accommodation during the weeks you have training at another location.

Several of our group leaders started their careers in production. As a train driver, there is also the opportunity to train as a mentor, fact collector, or peer supporter.

Recruitment Process

If you meet our basic requirements, you will initially be invited to a phone interview. This will be followed by an interview with the hiring manager, a medical examination including drug and alcohol testing, and finally digital reference checks and background verification. We use SRI's control tool to ensure that the candidates do not have a background that is incompatible with our values.
