Accounting Manager at Eskilstuna Municipality

At the Service Administration in Eskilstuna Municipality, you will become part of an organization with a clear forward-looking direction. We work together to create value for the entire municipal group through smart, efficient, and high-quality financial services. You will belong to the Central Accounting unit within Accounting and Analysis, consisting of approximately 30 dedicated colleagues. Here, you work closely with your colleagues, the municipal executive office, and other parts of the organization. We are currently developing our ways of working with a focus on digitalization, automation, and smarter processes.

The position is a permanent employment and begins with a six-month probationary period.

Responsibilities

As an Accounting Manager, you have an operational role with overall responsibility for the municipality's accounting processes. You drive the work to develop, ensure quality, and streamline the municipality's accounting and annual reporting. You also contribute to budget and forecast processes and actively work to develop the finance function's ways of working.

The role includes some ongoing bookkeeping and accounting, as well as monitoring changes in legislation and accounting regulations. You are responsible for ensuring that the municipality's guidelines and routines within the accounting area are up to date. You lead the work with monthly, interim, and annual reporting for both the municipality and the municipal group, and are responsible for reporting to the Swedish National Bureau of Statistics (SCB). Furthermore, you work with accruals, tax declarations, projects, fixed assets, reconciliations, and financial analyses, as well as producing key figures and reports in the municipality's decision support system. The role also involves reporting to government agencies and various projects.

Qualifications

We are looking for you who have an academic degree in economics or another education that the employer considers equivalent. You have at least three years of experience in qualified financial work, for example as an accounting consultant, finance manager, accounting manager, or financial controller. Through these roles, you have developed a good ability to analyze, follow up, and produce decision support materials for managers and leadership. You have strong analytical skills and are accustomed to identifying deviations, trends, and financial connections. Experience with group accounting is an advantage.

We would appreciate if you have experience in change and development work. You have participated in or driven initiatives to develop financial processes, follow-up methods, or control models. Experience in project management, digitalization, or other improvement assignments is an advantage. Having worked in a larger organization, for example within municipal or public operations, is a benefit. You have good knowledge of Microsoft Office and use Excel at an advanced level. It is an advantage if you have worked with BI tools such as Power BI, Qlik, or similar.

To thrive in the role, you are structured, meticulous, and analytical. You take great responsibility and have the ability to plan and prioritize your work even during periods of high tempo. You are a communicative and non-hierarchical person who enjoys collaborating and building good relationships, while also having the ability to work independently. You also have an interest in developing ways of working and creating efficient processes that contribute to the continued development of the operations.
