About the Swedish Prison and Probation Service
The Swedish Prison and Probation Service is growing – we are building new facilities, renovating, and expanding, and we are now looking for more employees. Our most important goal is to reduce recidivism – to break the vicious cycle. If we succeed, society will become safer and more secure for everyone. We are the agency responsible for prisons, probation services, remand prisons, and client transport.
We are now looking for prison officers, temporary positions at the Östersund Remand Prison. Job Description
Do you want to work with people in transition and contribute to a safer society? As a prison officer, you are present where things happen and create stability in a complex daily life where you make a difference for other people and society at large. To thrive and succeed in your assignment, it is important that you share the Swedish Prison and Probation Service's fundamental values regarding a humane view of humanity, respect for the individual, and the belief that humans are capable of development.
Work at a remand prison often involves clear routines with a focus on care and security. Clients may be deprived of their liberty for long periods without contact with anyone other than their lawyer and the staff at the remand prison. This places special demands on you as a prison officer, and here you will use your calmness, judgment, and understanding of people to contribute to safety and structure.
We are looking for you who want to work with and for people. With us, you become part of a team at a workplace where collaboration and security are in focus. You start your employment at the workplace with an introduction from September 21–25 during daytime, Monday–Friday.
Qualifications
Your personal qualities are important to us. As a prison officer, you need to be secure, stable, and have good self-awareness. You work together with your colleagues to run the operations and therefore need good teamwork skills and clear communication. In your professional practice, good judgment and integrity are required. You must have the physical ability to act when the situation demands it.
We are looking for you who have:
- Completed upper secondary education or other education combined with work experience that the Swedish Prison and Probation Service considers relevant
- Work experience, including seasonal work, hourly employment, or self-employment. Internships and volunteer work are not equivalent to employment
- Good knowledge of the Swedish language in both speech and writing
- Good computer skills
- Category B driver's license
The following is also meritorious:
- Work experience from pedagogical work, security work, social care, psychiatry, or care and nursing work
- Work experience from the service industry with understanding of people, communication, and problem-solving
- Knowledge in relevant areas, such as behavioral science, criminology, psychiatry, law, and conflict management
- Relevant language skills

Start date by agreement. Schedule Monday–Sunday. Evening and weekend work is included.
