We are looking for an environmental consultant for an assignment with Västerås Municipality. The assignment involves an investigation that will serve as a basis for the detailed development plan for Silokvarteren. The purpose is to investigate the pollution situation in the Harbour Basin and determine what measures are required to make the water swimmable.

The investigation will be carried out in collaboration with a parallel stormwater investigation and will result in a report used in the continued detailed planning process.

About the client

Västerås Municipality is carrying out the detailed planning work for Silokvarteren. The plan aims to transform an area with industrial and port activities into a mixed urban district featuring, among other things, housing, services, parks, and public spaces.

About the assignment

Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

• Conducting sampling and analysis of sediments in the Harbour Basin.
• Analyzing water quality with regard to bacterial and viral levels.
• Investigating the impact of stormwater and identifying major inflows, with a particular focus on Lillån.
• Assessing how variations in precipitation and flows affect water quality.
• Coordinating the investigation with the parallel stormwater investigation.
• Producing a report with results, conclusions, and recommendations.
• Preparing preliminary cost estimates for proposed measures.
• Delivering the report in accordance with the requirements of the Act on Accessibility to Digital Public Services (DOS Act).

Requirements

• Experience with at least two similar assignments during the last five years.
• Competence in microbiology and bathing water assessment.
• At least one reference assignment from a similar project completed in the last year.

Merits

• Ecological competence for assessing the system's function and variations, e.g., hydrobiologist.
• Experience in developing concrete and feasible measure proposals, including impact assessments.
• Experience with investigations in harbor areas or similar locations with complex impacts, such as from stormwater or wastewater treatment plants.
