Captain for the Research Vessel Svea
Svea is one of the world's most modern research vessels and can be used for almost all types of marine research and environmental monitoring. Svea is owned by the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU) and is staffed by the Swedish Maritime Administration. Regular operations and customers include SLU and the Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute (SMHI), which conduct expeditions in the Atlantic Ocean and the Baltic Sea. Through these expeditions, fish stocks, marine environments, and seabed conditions are monitored. Additionally, bathymetric surveys using ROVs are conducted for the Swedish Maritime Administration.
Responsibilities
Your duties as Captain involve overseeing daily operations. Together with the Technical Superintendent on board, you are responsible for the vessel's operation and maintenance. You are also responsible for training and coaching new staff and have personnel responsibility for all crew members. You report to the Shipping Company's Fleet Manager and SLU.
You will be employed by the Swedish Maritime Administration's Shipping Company, primarily stationed as Captain on Svea, although service on other vessels within the company may become relevant.
Who are you?
We are looking for you who hold the following qualifications according to STCW Manila:
- At least Master Mariner Class I certificate
- Valid medical certificate for seafarers
- Certificate for basic safety training
- Certificate for advanced firefighting
- Certificate for survival craft and rescue boats
- Certificate for basic medical care
- Certificate for medical care on board
- GOC (General Operator's Certificate)
- Good ability to express yourself in Swedish and English, both orally and in writing
The following qualifications are meritorious:
- Experience working as a Captain
- Experience with trawl fishing
- Experience working on vessels with external customers

How and when?
This recruitment is for a permanent position to be filled as soon as possible or according to agreement.
The Swedish Maritime Administration may apply a six-month probationary period.
The position may involve being designated for war service at the Swedish Maritime Administration.
The position may require Swedish citizenship. Security check with registry control may be conducted before an employment offer is made.
