Your future workplace
The Swedish Forest Agency has a government mandate to implement rewetting of previously drained peatlands. To accelerate and further develop the work on rewetting, we are looking for 1–2 forest consultants for permanent positions at the Jönköping and/or Gothenburg districts.
Rewetting involves raising the groundwater level on historically drained peatland to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. In addition to being a significant climate measure, it has positive effects on biodiversity and water management. The work on rewetting contributes to several of Sweden's environmental quality objectives, including Living Forests and Reduced Climate Impact.
Responsibilities
Your tasks as a rewetting planner cover the entire chain, from initial GIS analyses to identify potential rewetting areas, extensive dialogue with landowners, to finally carrying out the practical ditch blocking and eventually monitoring its hydrological effects as well as its impact on nature conservation and climate-adapted timber production. This means that along the way you will handle incoming expressions of interest, contact and dialogue with landowners, process cases in our case management system, conduct hydrological modeling, plan the implementation of ditch blocking, draft agreements with landowners, and hire excavator contractors and supervise them during practical measures. It is a complex and challenging, yet very exciting, role with great opportunities for personal development.
The work is independent and varied with many different contact surfaces. In the South Region, there are currently three teams working on rewetting, and you will work with the support of competent and engaged colleagues at the district level, in the regional team, and within the national rewetting administration. The position as a forest consultant may also include other common tasks at the district, such as supervision, advisory services, inventory, and forestry services within our commission-based operations.
Qualifications
You have an academic university degree in forest science, biology, hydrogeology, or alternatively other education combined with relevant professional experience that the Swedish Forest Agency assesses as equivalent. We would appreciate if you have experience with site quality assessment and field planning, and that you have worked with both forest production and forestry nature conservation issues. Knowledge of hydrology and the importance of water in the landscape is a plus. Experience in public administration, knowledge of species, the Environmental Code, and nature value assessments are meritorious. We value good IT/GIS skills.
We place great emphasis on your personal qualities. As a person, you should be service-oriented and have good teamwork skills. You should be willing and able to take responsibility for various activities and be able to work independently towards set goals in a structured manner. As a person, you should enjoy talking to people and have pedagogical skills and confidence in representing a public authority. You must be able to express yourself well in Swedish, both orally and in writing.
You need a value system and integrity that allow you to identify with the requirements of the role as a state employee. You should treat and dialogue with people in different situations in a trustworthy and respectful manner.
A driver's license for a car with manual transmission is required, as travel to nearby districts occurs. You have good ability and experience working in the field.
What we offer you
We offer a permanent position at 100%. Start date by agreement. The employment begins with a 6-month probationary period.
The base of operations is Borås or Värnamo. Jönköping may become an alternative in the future.
Interviews may be held via Teams. Interviews are planned for weeks 33 and 34 after the summer holidays. Since we are entering the holiday season, we ask to be allowed to get back to you if you leave your details via the switchboard.
