Are you interested in working with Västmanland's valuable areas and natural environments? We are looking for an engaged and knowledgeable person who wants to investigate and register the condition of habitats in the county's Natura 2000 areas. You will get to know many of the county's most valuable nature areas and become familiar with most things related to Natura 2000 and our most common habitat/nature types.

Job Responsibilities

The County Administrative Board is to assess the area and status of habitat types in the county's Natura 2000 areas. You will work with reviewing the occurrence of habitats, classifying their status, and registering the assessments. The classifications and assessments you make will essentially be based on existing information and background material, but to understand contexts and quality-assure assessments, some fieldwork is required.

The assignment is carried out within the framework of the activity responsible for nature conservation, and you will become part of the area protection group. The group and other people at the unit will serve as a support and sounding board in the work.

Some important/major tasks in the work will be to:

• absorb and gain current knowledge about the habitat types that occur in the county
• produce, analyze, evaluate, and compile background material on habitat types in Natura 2000 areas
• have dialogue and cooperate with colleagues and others who can contribute knowledge about the Natura 2000 areas and the status of the habitats
• assess whether the habitats meet the set criteria for each habitat type and determine if they have good or poor conservation status
• register assessments and status classifications in the current system
• follow up on uncertain assessments and inventory the occurrence and status of habitats in the field
• work in various digital systems for handling and compiling large amounts of information

The tasks may be adapted to some extent based on your competence and previous experience. This applies, for example, to the extent of fieldwork, which is adapted to your competence and experience regarding identifying and evaluating habitats and species.

About the Workplace

You will work at the Unit for Nature Conservation and Management within the Department of Nature and Environment. The unit's approximately 15 employees are responsible for the establishment and management of protected nature, action programs for threatened terrestrial species (ÅGP), terrestrial environmental monitoring, outdoor recreation, green infrastructure, and more. Currently, 5 employees work in the working group dealing with area protection issues.

At the unit, a experienced, positive, and engaged team works in collaboration with others to preserve the most important and valuable natural environments in the county. Qualifications

We are looking for you who have:

• a completed university education as a biologist or natural scientist with a focus on nature and nature conservation, or alternatively other education/experience that the County Administrative Board deems equivalent
• knowledge of our most common nature types and a good understanding of what distinguishes more valuable nature areas from trivial environments
• experience working in various systems for compiling large amounts of data
• ability to express yourself well orally and in writing (in Swedish)
• Class B driver's license

The following is meritorious:

• relevant experience or knowledge about Natura 2000, for example through classification or inventory of habitats according to the Natura 2000 system
• experience working in project form with significant personal responsibility for planning and/or delivery
• experience working with GIS
• experience working in government agencies, especially county administrative boards
