The Psychiatry Department (Adult Psychiatry) encompasses both outpatient and inpatient care, an emergency clinic, and a mobile nursing team, providing specialist psychiatric care to patients in Jämtland County. The department has a total of approximately 270 employees. Within the psychiatric clinic in Östersund, all specialist care is housed under one roof, offering excellent opportunities for close collaboration with colleagues in other units and personal development for you as an employee. Targeted investments are being made within the operations regarding working environment, education, and safety for staff in inpatient care.
We are looking for nurses to join our inpatient care teams! We can offer permanent nursing positions on one of our three wards, as well as a one-year Trainee Program for those who wish to get an introduction to psychiatry with internal training, supervision, and the opportunity to try working on different wards. The Trainee Program is open to both newly graduated and more experienced nurses; the most important factor is your interest in psychiatric nursing.
Our Inpatient Wards:
- Ward 1b, focusing on acute psychiatry.
- Ward 4a offers psychiatric inpatient care focusing on psychosis and eating disorder treatment.
- Ward 4b offers psychiatric inpatient care focusing on affective and geriatric conditions.
We will find together the ward that suits you best based on your experience, your interest, and our joint interview process.

Job Responsibilities
As a nurse in inpatient care, you work closely with the patient and as a team leader to help the patient with their daily life, personal care, and social contacts. Here, you work together with other professional groups such as assistant nurses, doctors, social workers, and psychologists. You will have a broad and exciting field of work and close collaboration with the department's outpatient care. We always strive for employee-driven improvement work to achieve the goals of good, safe care and professional treatment.
The Trainee Program offers you a unique opportunity to be introduced to patient work, primarily within psychiatric inpatient care. By following patients' pathways and care flows within different units, you will gain valuable practical experience and a large network within the entire psychiatric field. You will participate in patient meetings concerning various psychiatric conditions and diseases in contact and collaboration with several different professional groups and specialist teams, which provides a good understanding of psychiatric care. As a Trainee employee, you are prioritized for internal training offers and follow a structured setup with supervision and varying tasks. If you are a newly graduated nurse, you will participate in the Clinical Base Year, Region Jämtland Härjedalen's basic education, in parallel during the year.
