About the Swedish Prison and Probation Service
The Swedish Prison and Probation Service is growing – we are building new facilities, renovating existing ones, and expanding our operations. We are now looking for more employees. Our most important goal is to reduce recidivism – to break the vicious circle. If we succeed, society will become safer and more secure for everyone. We are the authority responsible for prisons, probation services, remand prisons, and client transport.
Job Description
As a prison officer, you will be part of a team where you have daily contact with the client.
Working in a remand prison involves a focus on care and security and is a job with clear routines. Some people are held in remand for a long time and only meet their lawyer and the staff working at the remand prison. This places special demands on you as a prison officer.
Working as a prison officer means you can make a difference for other people and contribute to a better society. To enjoy and succeed in your assignment, it is important that you share the Prison and Probation Service's fundamental values regarding a humane view of people, respect for the individual, and the belief that people are capable of development.
You will start your employment at the workplace where you will receive an introduction over three weeks. After a period of service, you will be offered a place in the Prison and Probation Service's basic training, which is mandatory and covers 8 weeks. You will receive a salary during the entire training period. During the probationary period, ongoing assessments will be conducted regarding your eligibility for permanent employment.
Qualifications
Your personal qualities are important. As a prison officer, you need to be secure, stable, have good self-insight, good judgment, and integrity. Together with your colleagues, you drive the operations, so you need to have good collaboration skills and be clear in your communication. You must be able to act physically when required.
For us, it is important that you share the Prison and Probation Service's fundamental values regarding a humane view of people, respect for the individual, and the belief in the human will and ability to develop. You are also aware of and understand how background, culture, and group affiliation affect yourself and others. Furthermore, you are expected to contribute to ensuring that everyone is treated equally with your approach. We place great emphasis on personal suitability.
We are looking for someone who has:
- Completed upper secondary education or other education combined with work experience that the Prison and Probation Service deems relevant
- Work experience, also in the form of seasonal work, hourly employment, or self-employment. Internships and volunteer work are not equivalent to employment
- Good knowledge of the Swedish language in both speech and writing
- Good computer skills
It is also an advantage to have:
- Work experience from the prison and probation service, security work, social care, psychiatry, or care and support work
- Knowledge in relevant areas, such as behavioral science, criminology, psychiatry, law, and conflict management
- Relevant language skills
