Pajala Municipality is the large (in area) small municipality located in the land of the northern lights and midnight sun – Tornedalen, in eastern Norrbotten. JOB DESCRIPTION
We are now looking for a new colleague who wants to strengthen our team. As an environmental inspector, you will be offered a varied, developing, and socially important job.
Your main responsibilities will include:
- Supervision and assessment under the Environmental Code and food legislation. The work includes supervision, review, assessments, and decisions, as well as information, advice, and dialogue with residents, entrepreneurs, officials, and politicians.
- You will alternate between fieldwork and office work, providing both variety and a high degree of independence.
- The assignment also includes processing incoming cases of various kinds and preparing and presenting cases in the Building and Environmental Committee.
- As an authority representative, you will set requirements, make decisions, and ensure that the work is carried out legally, clearly, and with good service. Quality work and business development with a focus on digitalization are a natural part of our daily work, and you will play an active role in this.

QUALIFICATIONS
We are looking for someone who is educated as a food, environmental, or health protection inspector, or has other equivalent education or work experience. It is an advantage if you have worked in municipal operations with supervision according to the Environmental Code, environmental protection, or have other experience related to environmental and administrative legislation.
Knowledge of EDP Vision or similar case management systems is advantageous, as is proficiency in Finnish or Meänkieli.
A valid driver's license (B) is required as a large part of the work consists of independently conducting inspections.
Personality:
- You have genuine curiosity and a clear commitment to social and environmental issues.
- You are analytical, meticulous, and have good professional judgment for legally secure authority practice, even in complex situations.
- You are outgoing, proactive, and service-oriented, with a knack for building good relationships.
- You express yourself well in Swedish, both orally and in writing, and have good communication and collaboration skills.
- You have the ability to explain and communicate difficult decisions clearly, respectfully, and understandably.
- The role requires you to work both independently and collaboratively with colleagues.
- You have a natural drive, are structured, and take responsibility for ensuring that your tasks are performed with high quality.
- You are also solution-oriented and enjoy a varied job where you quickly need to familiarize yourself with new areas.
- Good computer skills are a given, and you are comfortable working digitally.
