About STI

Stockholm Technical Institute (STI) has been educating technical specialists in close collaboration with the labor market since 1924. Our programs are developed in close cooperation with the industry so that students feel secure when they take the step into working life.

We are now launching the Train Mechanic program within the new National Vocational Education framework and are looking for a lead teacher who wants to help secure the skills supply within the Swedish railway.

This is an opportunity for you who have worked for a long time in a depot, workshop, or maintenance and want to pass on the profession.

About the role

As a lead teacher, you will be responsible for the technical core of the education. You will teach, guide, and connect the education to the reality of the industry – how the job actually works in maintenance operations.

You do not need to be a pedagogue today. If you have the professional competence, we will help you become a good teacher.

You will work closely with educational leaders and industry companies and contribute to ensuring that the education reflects modern vehicles and working methods.

Responsibilities

  • Teach mechanical and electrical vehicle maintenance
  • Guide students in practical moments and workshop work
  • Connect theory to real fault images, routines, and safety requirements
  • Participate in LIA periods and contact with depots
  • Develop exercises, troubleshooting cases, and practical moments
  • Ensure that the education meets industry requirements and standards

We are looking for someone with experience in

  • Maintenance and troubleshooting of rail vehicles
  • Bogies, brake systems, door systems, or auxiliary systems
  • Electrical systems in vehicles (low and/or high voltage)
  • Reading drawings and documentation
  • Working according to safety regulations and occupational health routines

Background (one of the following)

  • Train mechanic / depot technician / maintenance technician in the railway
  • Vehicle technician with experience in rail vehicles
  • Team leader or specialist in maintenance operations

Meritorious

  • Experience in mentoring or introducing new colleagues/apprentices
  • Knowledge of railway regulations and safety management
  • Experience in troubleshooting modern vehicle systems
  • Contact with education, internships, or professional development
  • Experience in documentation and maintenance systems

Personal qualities

We are looking for someone who:

  • Enjoys teaching the profession practically
  • Is clear and structured regarding safety
  • Can explain why things are done – not just how
  • Wants to contribute to the industry having better-prepared employees

We offer

  • A role where your professional knowledge makes a concrete difference for the industry
  • Pedagogical support and introduction to the teaching role
  • Opportunity to influence the content of the education
  • Close collaboration with railway companies and workshops
  • An engaged team focused on practical education

Application

The position is a permanent full-time employment. We hope you can start as soon as possible. Please submit your application as soon as possible – we conduct interviews on an ongoing basis and the position will be filled when we find the right person.
