Operator/Coordinator - Railway Fault Management Job Responsibilities
Working to coordinate fault management means being at the center of events at our Traffic Center. Together with your colleagues at the Traffic Center, you play an important role in ensuring that people and goods travel safely and on time. In the organization, you are referred to as a Railway Operations Technician and are responsible for monitoring the railway's technical systems around the clock and managing incoming alarms.
Working as a railway operations technician involves, among other things:
- Receiving incoming alarms via various technical systems and phone
- Alerting and coordinating contractors for fault management on the railway
- Collaborating with, among others, emergency services, police, and other contacts at the Swedish Transport Administration
- Contacting various external parties in the event of accidents and incidents
- Documenting events in our technical systems
- Monitoring via surveillance cameras
Important information for applicants
Basic Training
This is an important role for the Swedish Transport Administration, and we therefore invest in you with internal training at the Transport Administration School in Ängelholm combined with practical training at your local Traffic Center. You do not need to have any prior knowledge of railways.
The training takes an average of about 6 months, where a total of about 5 weeks are held in Ängelholm (with mandatory attendance and overnight stay) and the remainder is conducted with a supervisor at your workplace. Travel to other locations may also occur. You will start with a 6-month probationary employment, which will transition to a permanent position as an Operations Technician, provided that everything goes well.
About the Recruitment Process
Since this position is classified for traffic safety, there are regulations that need to be met when we recruit. This means that the process includes several steps to verify that you as an applicant meet the requirements. We conduct tests, a recruitment day, individual psychological assessments, interviews, and for final candidates, security checks and health examinations are also conducted. Several parts of the recruitment process require you to be physically present, and you will need to take time off from any job or studies to participate.
- The recruitment day, which includes work tests and job-related exercises, will take place on-site in Gothenburg in week 16
- Individual psychological assessments will be conducted on-site in Gothenburg in week 19
- Final interviews are planned to be conducted digitally during week 21

QualificationsWho is suitable for the role?
We are looking for a service-oriented team player who listens and adapts their communication to ensure a common situational picture. The role places high demands on safety awareness, which for us means that you understand risks, consequences, and carefully follow regulations in your work. You act professionally and credibly in all contacts and are responsible and methodical. You are comfortable working independently and making decisions even in pressured situations. With good adaptability, you maintain calm and focus both in high-pressure situations and when things are quieter at work.
To become a railway operations technician, you must have:
- Completed secondary education
- Good ability to express yourself verbally and in writing in Swedish
- Interest and ability to work shifts (day, evening, weekend, night, and public holidays)
It is an advantage but not a requirement if you have:
- Good ability to communicate verbally over the phone
- Good computer skills and experience working with digital tools previously
- Experience working in fast-paced environments
- Experience working in a role where it has been important to follow routines and regulations
- Experience in work where safety has been a focus
