Medical Intermediate Care Unit (MICU)

The Medical Intermediate Care Unit (MICU) is organized under the Cardiac and Pulmonary Diseases Department, which in turn is part of the Medical Clinic. There are currently 15 beds assigned to the field of cardiology, of which 6 beds belong to MICU. Overall, the department covers most heart diseases except invasive cardiology and other specialised examinations. The Unit is also responsible for inserting pacemakers for patients living within the Helse Fonna health region.

The Medical Intermediate Care Unit (MICU) receives and treats emergency and critically ill patients with complex and difficult diagnoses in the field of internal medicine. The Unit treats patients who need cardiological or medical intermediate monitoring and care. We treat emergency/threatened myocardial infarction, arrhythmia problems, heart failure and other acute heart diseases. We also treat respiratory problems that involve non-invasive ventilation (NIV), ketoacidosis, intoxication, actilysis therapy etc. A high level of professionalism is required for this work. We work in teams and cooperate closely with other professional groups.

Tasks

  • Reception and nursing responsibilities for emergency and critically ill patients.
  • Provide good care for patients and their next of kin.
  • Initiate and continue treatment in collaboration with the doctor responsible for the patient.
  • Use of advanced medical technical equipment.
  • Close cooperation with other multidisciplinary professional groups.
  • Guidance for colleagues and students in further education in intensive care nursing.
  • Interpretation of ECG/rhythms (central monitor surveillance).
  • Be involved in developing and improving the department's work within various focus areas.
  • Work is scheduled in a three-part rotation.

Qualifications

  • Norwegian nursing authorisation.
  • Further education as an intensive care nurse.
  • Relevant hospital experience at similar units.
  • Familiarity with medical technical equipment.
  • Knowledge of heart patients and the critically ill.
  • Professionally committed and interested.
  • You need to learn Norwegian language both written and oral at a high level (B2).
