Department of Biosystems and Technology
Do you want to help shape the future of the horticultural industry? Horticultural science is an interdisciplinary field that spans from plant physiology to business economics. The subject plays an important role in addressing future challenges and contributes solutions for sustainable production of food and green plants. As a researcher, you will play a central role.
About the Job
The main task is research in the field of plant physiology and plant nutrition, but a large part of the position will be dedicated to teaching within SLU's educational programs in horticulture, focusing on horticultural production physiology. Teaching primarily takes place within the Bachelor's program in Horticultural Engineering, but also in other courses at both undergraduate and graduate levels within horticulture and agroecology. Teaching is conducted in both Swedish and English.
Your Background
We are looking for someone with broad expertise in horticulture. You should hold a PhD in agricultural sciences or equivalent. If you have docent competence or equivalent, that is a plus. You should be a person with a strong pedagogical commitment. Pedagogical training and/or experience is highly meritorious. Teaching experience is very advantageous. You should have a strong interest in research and development within the industry, as it is important that teaching is conducted close to research. Your previous research should complement the group's existing subject areas and have addressed sustainable (green) solutions for the horticultural sector and/or modern (state of the art) analytical methods and/or stress response studies (drought/salinity/nutrient deficiency, etc.). Experience supervising at the Post-doc level is a plus, and documented previous activity as a project leader (PI) for research projects is meritorious. You are proficient in both Swedish and English, spoken and written, and are a team player who contributes to a positive work environment.
About Us
The Department of Biosystems and Technology explores the interactions between soil, plants, animals, environment, climate, and humans in systems for sustainable production of food and renewable raw materials. The questions within teaching and research revolve around sustainable and efficient use of limited resources in production in greenhouses, on fields, and in stables.
