Cultural Department

The Cultural Department within the Environmental Sector has about 180 employees and consists of the operations Concerts and Events, Libraries and Cultural Houses, Meeting Places and Youth, as well as Art and Culture.

Gävle Art Center is part of the Art and Culture unit and is responsible for the municipal art gallery in Agnes Cultural House, public art, a haven for visual art, association grants, public programs, and Bio 7:an.

The unit consists of twelve employees, and a total of about 55 people work in various cultural activities within Agnes Cultural House. Collaboration, humility, and a solution-oriented approach are important parts of our everyday life. Your main workplace is Agnes Cultural House, and you report to the unit manager for Art and Culture.

We are in a development phase where the program activities play a central role in deepening the exhibitions and strengthening the art gallery's role in the city.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

As a cultural developer focusing on art and program activities, you will work to develop, plan, and implement programs closely linked to the art gallery's exhibitions, public art, and the shared programs of Agnes Cultural House.

You will work both strategically and operationally and be responsible for:

• developing and producing programs such as discussions, lectures, workshops, film screenings, and artist meetings
• testing new formats that create participation and strengthen the meeting between art and the audience
• driving projects from idea to implementation, including planning, budgeting, and follow-up
• collaborating with artists, cultural actors, schools, civil society, and colleagues within the municipality
• contributing to audience work and communication, for example by writing texts for the web and program materials

QUALIFICATIONS

We are looking for someone with a strong interest in contemporary art and experience working with art and cultural projects.

You may have a higher education in art, culture, or another relevant field.

We would like you to:

• have experience planning and implementing programs or projects within culture
• be used to working independently and taking responsibility for the overall project
• have good knowledge of contemporary art and current artistic expressions
• have experience with budgeting or administrative tasks
• express yourself well in Swedish, both spoken and written

It is an advantage if you have experience in audience work, art pedagogy, working in cultural houses, or in a politically governed organization, as well as having good English skills.

Personal Qualities

To thrive in this role, you are structured and proactive. You have the ability to see the big picture and relate art to social issues and different target groups.

You enjoy collaborating, build good relationships, and contribute to an open and respectful work climate.
