Canal Operators - temporary employment as needed
based in Södertälje/Stockholm
The Swedish Maritime Administration is responsible for safe, accessible, and sustainable shipping. At the Shipping Traffic Center in Södertälje, we monitor vessel traffic in our fairways and create conditions for safe and efficient pilotage. We are now looking for canal operators who want to contribute to our essential public service running smoothly every day!
Job Responsibilities
As a Canal Central Operator, you play an important role in maintaining safety and service. Your main tasks include operating bridges and locks, communicating with vessel traffic and recreational boats via VHF/SRC, reporting technical faults along the fairway, and handling administrative tasks. At times, the work pace is high, and you are expected to manage multiple events simultaneously. In addition to the logistical office work, some practical outdoor tasks are included. The work is performed at irregular hours, both day and night.
Who are you?
We are looking for someone with at least a high school diploma. It is important that you can express yourself well in both spoken and written Swedish and English, as well as having good computer skills and easily handling various IT systems.
It is an advantage if you have a degree in Ship Command Class VIII and a valid SRC radio license. Other advantageous qualifications include education in maritime studies and/or experience in shipping, as well as having remotely operated bridges and locks. Furthermore, it is beneficial if you have worked with mooring lines and operated bridges on-site (locally). Education/experience in logistics is also advantageous.

You are communicative and passionate about providing good service to our customers. How and when?
This recruitment is for a temporary position that should be filled as soon as possible and will last for a maximum of 12 months from the start date.
Interviews will be conducted on an ongoing basis.
The position may involve military placement at the Swedish Maritime Administration.
The position may require Swedish citizenship. A security check with a background check may be conducted before a job offer.
