Do you want to work with environmental issues where your expertise makes a real difference? As an environmental specialist at the Swedish Transport Administration, you contribute to a landscape-adapted infrastructure by ensuring that nature and the environment are managed correctly in projects.
Job Responsibilities
We are now looking for reinforcement in the Northern region from a colleague in the field of natural environment!
As an environmental specialist, you provide support in managing the environmental issues that arise in both large and small investment projects, from early planning to completed construction. You support the coordinating environmental specialist and the project manager, guiding the project organization to ensure that the Swedish Transport Administration sets correct and relevant environmental requirements, contributes to goals for environment and health, and ensures good environmental adaptation. In some projects that have a more nature-focused approach, you may also take on the role of coordinating environmental specialist.
With us, you support several different projects in identifying and assessing environmental aspects and follow the environmental work through all stages of the projects. This may involve ensuring the preparation of documents for notifications and permit applications, participating in procurements of consultants and contractors, and conducting reception controls of the consultants' and contractors' deliveries. You contribute knowledge regarding natural value inventories (NVI), species protection exemptions, compensatory measures, Natura 2000 assessments, and the impact of infrastructure on animals, plants, ecosystems, and landscapes. You will also be able to conduct smaller inventories and follow-ups, e.g., natural value assessments, inventories of watercourses, and follow-ups on fauna measures.
You will become part of a national environmental unit with over 100 environmental specialists within the investment area at the Department of Technology and Environment. This provides you with great opportunities for collaboration with and support from other environmental specialists, as well as professional development and knowledge exchange within the organization - which we see as a great strength. With your in-depth expertise in the field of natural environment, there is an opportunity to work strategically with environmental issues at the national level.
Qualifications
For the role of environmental specialist, we are looking for someone with several years of current and relevant work experience in the environmental field, where you have largely focused on issues related to the natural environment, especially in relation to the Environmental Code. We envision that you have broad experience working with, for example, natural value inventories (NVI), species protection exemptions, compensatory measures, Natura 2000 assessments, investigations regarding barrier effects of infrastructure in the landscape, or other similar tasks within the subject area.
In addition to the above, you have:
- a higher education degree of at least 180 credits in the environmental field with a scientific focus (preferably biologist or ecologist) or other education combined with relevant experience and competence that we assess as equivalent
- a valid driver's license for passenger cars
- good knowledge of Swedish and English, both spoken and written
We consider it an advantage if you also have:
- good knowledge in other environmental areas related to infrastructure projects
- experience in planning processes for road and/or railway projects
- experience in following up on completed environmental measures, e.g., wildlife passages, species-rich environments, species protection exemptions, etc.
- experience working professionally with GIS
Who are you?
As a person, you are structured and analytical with the ability to see the whole and connections in complex issues. You have the ability to independently structure your work and take responsibility for the progress of your issues while being flexible and able to reprioritize tasks when the situation requires it. Furthermore, you are goal- and result-oriented and enjoy having a coordinating and supportive role where you need to be able to act independently and in a team with other colleagues.
The work as an environmental specialist involves many contact points both internally and externally at the Swedish Transport Administration, as you participate in meetings, collaborate, and have contact with project management, colleagues, and other specialists, consultants, contractors, and authorities. To contribute in the best way, you need to communicate clearly and pedagogically and adapt your communication based on the recipient. Another important success factor is to be able to investigate various issues and make assessments and considerations based on different interests with regard to the whole.
