We now offer you, as a nurse, the opportunity to further your education to become a specialist nurse with a focus on district nursing, while retaining your base salary. The position is called an educational employment and is a permanent full-time position. Current workplaces are the health centers in Dalarna, both private and public.

The training starts in the autumn semester of 2026. As Region Dalarna collaborates with Dalarna University, we encourage you to apply for the program there as a first choice. After the education, we expect you to continue working within Region Dalarna and contribute to our development.

Working health-promoting with individuals of all ages is central to the district nurse's professional practice. As a district nurse at a health center, you will independently assess, plan, implement, and evaluate the measures needed to promote the physical, mental, and social health of patients and prevent the onset of disease and complications. You will work to involve the individual in care and treatment and to raise awareness of the individual's risk behaviors, their consequences, and the health benefits that a lifestyle change would entail. The work includes being responsible for health examinations and vaccination activities.

You are a licensed nurse with a bachelor's degree in health science or nursing, or a nursing degree of 180 credits including 15 credits thesis or equivalent. To be eligible for the specialist nursing program for district nurses at Dalarna University, you need at least 12 months of full-time work experience as a nurse or equivalent knowledge.

Educational Employment

You will receive a permanent employment as a nurse at one of the health centers in Dalarna. During the semester, you will have an educational employment with a base salary as a nurse. Outside of the semester, you will work according to the organization's working hours. The number of places for educational employment will be finalized after the application period ends.

• A copy of your grades or license that verifies the admission requirements
• A personal letter describing why you are interested in studying to become a specialist nurse, your thoughts on studying at an advanced level, and how you envision your future professional role
• A recommendation letter from your current supervisor
• Two employer representatives for references

After being accepted into the program, you must complete your application with the admission notice.

Your application must be received by Region Dalarna no later than March 16, 2026.
