The Gothenburg Burial Association is responsible for burial and cremation services within the geographical area of the city of Gothenburg. We have just over 200 permanent employees and 120 seasonal employees and summer substitutes. We manage 36 cemeteries with a total of nearly 119,000 burial plots. Our crematorium performs cremations both within Gothenburg and on behalf of other burial authorities.

We are an organizational unit within the Church of Sweden and we carry out our mission in accordance with the Burial Act. The Burial Association is governed by elected representatives within the Church of Sweden's nine parishes in Gothenburg. They are appointed through indirect elections to burial delegates who in turn elect a burial board. The administration is organized into a geographically divided maintenance department, functionally divided units, and an office. The business has a turnover of approximately 325 million SEK.

We are looking for someone who enjoys physically demanding outdoor work – in heat and cold, in all weather conditions.

The administration is organized into a geographically divided maintenance department, functionally divided units, and an office. The maintenance department is responsible for the care and maintenance of all cemeteries in Gothenburg. In addition to all common areas in the cemeteries, we also take care of cultural graves and individual burial plots with maintenance agreements. The maintenance department will be divided into five geographical units, Eastern, Western, Kviberg, Hisingen, and Outer, starting from the turn of 2026.

Description

We are now looking for two employees for permanent positions in the Western unit with start date as agreed.

When filling the position, great importance will be placed on your sense of responsibility and your enjoyment of working outdoors in varying environments.

Job Tasks

You will be part of a work team that doubles in size during the peak season and can consist of 10-20 people, led by a team leader in consultation with the unit manager.

We are looking for someone who wants to contribute to our well-maintained and inviting cemetery environment. As a cemetery worker, you will be responsible for the ongoing care of our burial sites and for preparing burial plots after interment.

Common tasks include:

• Green area maintenance
• Planting and watering flowers as well as caring for burial plots
• Groundwork and material handling
• Preparing burial plots after interment
• Pruning, trimming, and cutting bushes and hedges
• Weeding, leaf raking, and other maintenance
• Using machines and vehicles in daily work
• Working at heights, for example during tree pruning

You will always work according to safety regulations and follow verbal and written instructions. Preparedness for snow work and weekend work may occur.

Qualifications

• High school education in parks and landscaping, or other education/experience deemed equivalent by the employer
• Driver's license B
• Brushcutter training level RARB
• Chainsaw certificate AB
• Training certificate for equipment carriers
• Good knowledge of Swedish both spoken and written
• Good physical condition as the work is physically demanding with heavy lifting and occasionally repetitive tasks

Meritorious

• Post-secondary vocational education in gardening, park, and green area maintenance
• Previous work at a cemetery
• Training certificate for lifts
• Experience in operating and handling larger construction machinery
