Healthcare Assistants for the Future Geriatrics this Summer at Södertälje Hospital

VO Care represented Södertälje Hospital in the Magnet4Europe study, and we are now continuing to work with the magnet model to enable a good working environment and nursing development.

We provide care in several different areas such as internal medicine, surgery, orthopedics, geriatrics, and palliative care. We have healthcare assistants and nurses working with us, and our operational area is also led by nurses!

The operation will move into newly built premises at the beginning of 2026, providing unique opportunities - here you will have a chance to help build the future of geriatrics.

• C7 Geriatrics with a focus on rehabilitation
• C8 Geriatrics with a focus on cognitive impairment
• C9 Geriatrics GAVA with a focus on geriatric emergency care
• K4 Palliative department with a focus on advanced palliative care

We are now looking for you who would be interested in working with us this summer.

In your role as a healthcare assistant, you will be responsible for the basic care of the patients in your care team. During a shift, you will have regular follow-ups with the rest of the team, and you will have a particular focus on the patient's condition, planning, and treatment. You are expected to have a person-centered approach and assume that each patient has unique needs and conditions, where the patient's relatives are also an important piece and resource. Influence, participation, and job satisfaction are key words for your daily work, and we see patient safety, collaboration, and communication as important parts.

Qualities that are valued with us include personal maturity, attention to detail, humility, and a good attitude towards our patients and your colleagues. As a person, you are engaged, positive, and responsive to patients' needs. You can work in a structured manner and have the ability to prioritize your tasks when needed, as well as value good cooperation among colleagues.

Your Qualifications:

Requirements

• Trained healthcare assistant through the upper secondary school’s Health and Care program for 3 years (2500 points), Health and Care program, Komvux, three semesters (minimum 1350 points), or equivalent healthcare assistant education. See the National Board of Health and Welfare's full description of the requirements to obtain the protected professional title of healthcare assistant.
• Nursing student who has completed semester 4 or higher in the nursing program. You will then be employed as a care assistant.
• Medical student who has completed semester 5 or higher in the medical program. You will then be employed as a care assistant.
• Good knowledge of the Swedish language, both spoken and written.

Meritorious

• Experience in geriatric and/or palliative care in a hospital.
• Specialist education in a relevant area.
• Supervisor training.

Employment Form:

• Hourly employment. You will be assigned a schedule and will work day/evening, night, or 3-shift (day, evening, night) and about every other weekend. Please note that you need to be available for work during weeks 25-34.
• You are expected to be available starting from midsummer and for most of the summer.
• Interviews will be conducted on an ongoing basis.

As of July 1, 2023, the title of healthcare assistant is a protected professional title. This means that you need to have an issued certificate from the National Board of Health and Welfare to use the title healthcare assistant. If you do not have this certificate, your title will instead be care assistant until the certificate can possibly be presented.
