Birka Gotland is the Baltic Sea's entertainment cruiser with recreation and experiences for everyday escapists. The ship is operated by Gotland Alandia Cruises, founded in 2023 as a joint venture between the shipping companies Viking Line and Gotlandsbolaget. Birka Gotland offers cruises and regular services between Stockholm, Mariehamn, and Visby.

Life on board is unique – there is no 9 to 5 here, as operations run around the clock, and the work offers a dynamism and camaraderie that is hard to find elsewhere.

Onboard, there are several different job opportunities ranging from serving staff and chefs to entertainment, etc. The guest experience is always in focus, and our employees play a central role in creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere that permeates the entire ship. Summer job aboard Birka:

  • A work shift on board varies between 1-14 cruises in a row.
  • We offer work shifts as needed, both on short notice and with advance notice.
  • Safety tasks are included in all roles.
  • Work clothes and all meals on board are included, and you will have your own cabin, as well as access to a staff gym and sauna.

We offer summer jobs in the following roles:

Kitchen - Chef. We are looking for someone who is an experienced demi sous chef or à la carte chef with relevant education, several years of cooking experience - both traditional and à la carte, good knowledge of Swedish seasoning and various cooking methods. You enjoy having people around you and see an advantage in working intensively for a period to then be off for an equally long time.

Kitchen - Kitchen Assistant/Dishwasher. We are now looking for someone who is either a skilled assistant/cold kitchen worker or someone who may not have a background in the kitchen but is used to physically demanding work and wants to work in the dishwashing area. Regardless of background, you are flexible, stress-resistant, and have a desire to help us serve the best food on the Baltic Sea.

Restaurant - Waiter. You have several years of documented experience in serving food and drinks and are accustomed to working in a team. You are passionate about good service, results-oriented, and see upselling as a natural part of the job. In addition to serving in an à la carte restaurant, it is advantageous if you can work at the bar and have experience in conference operations.

Restaurant - Catering Host. The tasks vary from preparing/maintaining the buffet to working at the cash register, washing dishes, keeping the restaurant clean and tidy, serving food, setting, and clearing tables. Knowledge of basic conference technology is advantageous.

Restaurant - Catering Assistant. You are responsible for ensuring that the general areas of the workplace are welcoming for our guests. You restock goods, products, glasses, and dishes, as well as wash and clean.

Shop - Sales. You work with sales and customer service in the ship's Taxfree shop. Knowledge of beverages and experience in the beauty & fashion industry is highly advantageous, as well as education in the field, such as cosmetologist, makeup artist, or sommelier. You will also work at the cash register and, if necessary, in other departments on board.

Shop - Warehouse Assistant. Your tasks include active customer service, inventory management, and forklift operation. Previous experience in inventory management or logistics and product knowledge of our tax-free goods is advantageous. A forklift license A is required.

Spa - Masseuse & Skin Therapist. In our Archipelago Spa, you provide guests with relaxing spa treatments. You have spa therapist training and are a certified massage therapist/certified skin therapist. Knowledge of the products we work with on board, Babor and Elemis, is advantageous.

Hotel - Cleaning Staff. The work includes cleaning common areas during the journey to ensure guest comfort. The focus is on keeping everything clean and tidy on board. Cleaning of restaurants is included, as well as cleaning both passenger and crew cabins.
