Temporary Art Administrator

Description

The Culture and Leisure Administration is responsible for the municipality's art collection, support for the art scene, and exhibition activities. We work to ensure that art is a natural and accessible part of public spaces and people's everyday lives.

The Culture and Library operations have a broad area of responsibility and include, among other things, public libraries and the municipality's cultural event and program activities. The operations also include work with public art, the Arena cinema, and Alsters Manor. Decisions on support for cultural associations, local heritage and community centers, institutions, scholarships, and funds, as well as projects, are handled by the administration.

We are now looking for an art administrator for our operations. The position is a temporary one for one year, with a possibility of extension.

Responsibilities

As an art administrator, you will work both strategically and operationally with issues related to the municipality's art, focusing on the development and management of the movable art collection. The assignment also includes handling support for artists, promotional work, exhibitions, as well as processing cases and preparing decision materials.

You will be responsible for the entire case chain regarding art in the municipality's premises – from capturing needs in dialogue with activities to selection, relocation, placement, and installation of art collections. The assignment includes assessing renovation and action needs, initiating necessary measures, and alternating between working with existing art and making new purchases. You will work closely with the art, but equally closely with the people and processes surrounding it. Travel within the municipality occurs regularly.

In addition, you will work with case processing and preparation, as well as drafting service documents for the politicians. The role includes advising the municipality's activities and answering questions from citizens, the media, and other stakeholders. You will collaborate with several administrations and participate in development projects related to art, environments, and public spaces.

In this role, it is expected that you continuously maintain and develop your competence in the field of art and conduct environmental monitoring. You will act as a knowledge resource in the organization and have the ability to weigh in long-term perspectives in your assessments and decisions.

Qualifications

We are looking for someone with an academic degree in art or cultural studies, design, or another education that we consider equivalent. You have experience in curatorial work and are comfortable with the practical aspects of the profession. Since the position involves moving and transporting artworks, you need to be able to handle heavy and bulky objects and feel comfortable using tools in everyday tasks.

The role requires a very good ability to express yourself in both speech and writing. You also need to have a B driver's license as the work involves travel between different locations.

The work involves several parallel tasks and therefore requires good collaboration skills, flexibility, and structure. You are attentive, confident, and empathetic in your interactions with people and are used to collaborating with many different stakeholders. The role also requires you to be able to work independently and take responsibility for your assignments and to prioritize and adapt to changing conditions. A pedagogical approach is an important part of the work.

We consider it an advantage if you have experience working in a politically governed organization or if you have worked with case processing, case preparation, or other qualified administrative work. It is also beneficial if you are experienced in using social media.
