Unit Manager for the Art Unit at Västerås Museums

Do you want to lead the development of Västerås Art Museum and the city's work with public art? We are looking for an engaged unit manager for the Art Unit at Västerås Museums.

Your Responsibilities

As the unit manager for the Art Unit, you report directly to the museum director, and together you are responsible for leading, managing, and developing the operations at Västerås Art Museum, the city's work with public art, and Västerås Museums' mission within ICORN. You will drive both the strategic and operational work of the unit to ensure that the operations meet the goals set by the administration.

Your role includes representing Västerås Art Museum in both internal and external contexts, for example, in collaboration with other actors, in networks, and at public events, together with the museum director.

You will lead and coordinate a team of about fifteen employees with specialist expertise in art and designed living environments. The role includes responsibilities for personnel, budget, and work environment. You will report to the museum director, be part of the Västerås Museums' staff, and contribute with analysis and advice for strategic decisions.

Your Qualifications

We are looking for someone with an academic background in art history, preferably complemented by further education in leadership. You have several years of experience in strategic exhibition work, project management, and coordination, preferably within the cultural sector.

You have documented experience working with public art within municipal operations and good experience in budget planning and follow-up. You express yourself well in both spoken and written Swedish and English and have good knowledge of the Office suite, especially Word and Excel. It is an advantage if you have experience working in regional or national networks or steering groups within the art and museum sector, union engagement or board work, coordination of diversity issues, and have a B driver's license.

At Västerås Museums, you will be part of the Culture, Sports, and Recreation Administration and work on behalf of the Cultural Committee. We gather the city's activities within art and cultural heritage and operate three of Västmanland's most popular attractions. About thirty employees with different specialist competencies and responsibilities work here, organized in the Art Unit and the Cultural Heritage Unit, collaborating closely to achieve common goals.
