Your new job

The Technical Office is responsible for managing, operating, and developing activities related to the municipality's land and properties, streets and parks, forests and nature reserves, ports and parking lots, water and sewage, as well as waste management.

Environmental Management in Jönköping (MilJön) focuses on waste management and is a waste facility under the responsibility of the technical committee. We handle both hazardous and non-hazardous waste according to our environmental permit, contributing to sustainable waste management in the municipality. The operation is environmentally certified according to the ISO 14001 management system.

In the role of environmental engineer with us, you will have the freedom to take responsibility, create structure in your own way, and independently drive your processes - while being an important part of an engaged team. Here you will have both the space and the opportunity to make a real difference. The position involves a combination of office work and regular outdoor work, where sampling and follow-up in the operation is a natural part of everyday life. You actively monitor the external environment and keep yourself updated on current environmental issues, new technologies, legislation, and working methods within the industry. As part of the management team, you contribute your environmental expertise to strategic issues and help influence the long-term development of the operation.

Your tasks

  • Plan and conduct self-inspections, including sampling of soil, water, etc., with responsibility for follow-up and evaluation of results
  • Ensure compliance with laws and regulations and adherence to applicable permits and conditions
  • Establish, update, and follow up on operational and maintenance instructions, weekly checks, and other documentation related to the operation
  • Environmental reporting
  • Environmental investigations, environmental management, improvement work
  • Participation in working groups and networks within Waste Sweden

Requirements

  • University degree in environmental science, preferably environmental engineering, environmental technology, or environmental science, or equivalent work experience deemed relevant by the employer.
  • Previous work experience as an environmental engineer or in another position with equivalent responsibilities in the environmental field
  • Good knowledge of applicable environmental legislation
  • Digital skills
  • Driver's license (manual transmission)
  • Good knowledge of Swedish, both spoken and written

Desirable

  • Experience working with environmental issues in waste and recycling
  • Experience working with contaminated areas
  • Experience in ecosystem services
  • Experience working in environmental management systems, such as ISO 14001

The recruitment concerns a permanent position at 100% with a start date by agreement. Working hours are scheduled for weekdays from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM with flexible hours and the possibility of remote work up to 40%. The position is primarily based at Miljövägen 10, 555 94 Jönköping.
