Summer Substitute as Detention Guard

Police Region North is the largest region in terms of area. The region consists of the four northernmost counties in Sweden and is organized into four police areas: Jämtland, Norrbotten, Västerbotten, and Västernorrland, which together are divided into 12 local police areas. Furthermore, there are three regional units: the operational unit, the intelligence unit, and the investigation unit, a regional office, and national departments represented in the region to support police operations.

The Västernorrland police area is divided into three local police areas: Medelpad, Northern Ångermanland, and Southern Ångermanland. Within the local police area of Southern Ångermanland, there are intervention and crime prevention activities, investigation groups, as well as support and service.

The position concerns a summer substitute during the period from June to August with a chance for extension in hours.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

As a summer substitute with us, you will be responsible for our detention operations. The work as a detention guard means that you handle and meet people who are deprived of their liberty. Many are deprived of their liberty for the purpose of investigating crimes, but it can also involve shorter detentions due to, for example, intoxication. As a detention guard, it is your job to receive these individuals and maintain the closest contact during their time of detention in the detention facility.

Your main responsibilities as a detention guard include receiving and monitoring the detainees in the detention department. You will also perform so-called medical examinations, register checks, documentation, photography, and report taking. You will also transport individuals to detention hearings. The pace of work varies and depends on how many are detained. It can be physically demanding and requires that you are in good health. It also places high demands on professional conduct and an attitude characterized by respect for everyone's equal value.

Detention monitoring is supervised by the station commander.

QUALIFICATIONS

We are looking for someone who:

• Is a police student and has completed at least the third semester at the police academy with passing grades in the self-defense course or has a similar and relevant education combined with experience that the employer deems relevant for the position.
• Has good knowledge of Swedish in both spoken and written form
• Has a B driver's license

It is an advantage if you also have:

• Experience in service work in the form of personal meetings that the employer deems relevant
• Experience working with people in vulnerable environments
• Experience in service work within the police, another authority, or public administration that the employer deems relevant for the position
• Are a police student
• Knowledge/skills regarding police data systems such as RES, lost property, and Durtvå

Personal Qualities

As an employee, you are the police's face to the public and are expected to work with engagement, availability, and efficiency.

You have an interest in working with people and have the ability to understand other people's perspectives and situations without taking over their feelings. In stressful situations, you can act calmly, controlled, and professionally. You apply a high level of security awareness, which means that you are reliable in situations where physical violence may arise. The work also requires that you work well with others. You have a flexible attitude and enjoy helping and supporting others.

Employment form: Fixed-term employment as an administrator with the function of detention guard for 8-10 weeks during the period from June to August, the length of employment, start and end times may vary.
