to apply for the job

The city of Västerås has removed the personal letter from the application process. We do this to achieve a better and fairer recruitment process. When you submit your application, you will be required to answer a number of questions that will become an important part of our selection work.

Västerås is growing and developing! With the aim of creating a safe and sustainable environment for everyone who lives and works here, you as an environmental and health inspector have a significant role. You will have a varied assignment where you, through your expertise, supervision, and dialogue, contribute to important societal benefits. Welcome to us!

Your tasks

We are now looking for two environmental and health protection inspectors with different focuses. In both positions, you will work with supervision according to the Environmental Code and carry out authority assignments in a respectful and factual manner towards businesses and individuals you meet in the field. In the role, you will set requirements, inform, and make decisions, while also contributing to creating a sustainable and safe environment for all. You will plan and carry out supervision independently based on the approved supervision plan and manage your own cases from start to finish. The tasks include both planned and event-driven supervision.

One position is divided between two different workgroups; environmentally hazardous activities (50%, with a special focus on waste) and contaminated areas (50%). Within contaminated areas, particular focus in the coming years will be on PFAS and work according to the municipality's action plan for contaminated areas. The other position is placed in the environmentally hazardous activities workgroup, with a special focus on waste. Within the waste area, you will participate in supervision projects and handle cases related to mass management.

We use the case management system Ecos2 and apply a digital working method in the processing of cases.

Your qualifications

You have a university degree in natural sciences or engineering with at least 180 higher education credits and good knowledge of the Environmental Code. We consider it an advantage if you have previous experience with waste legislation, supervision of contaminated areas, or environmentally hazardous activities. Since driving is part of the job, it is a requirement that you have a B driver's license and are comfortable driving a car.

By being secure and stable, you handle pressured situations calmly and professionally. You find it easy to collaborate and communicate in a clear and constructive manner. You enjoy driving your own processes where your working method is structured, pragmatic, and characterized by a focus on finding practical and sustainable solutions.
