Our Operations

Uppsala University Hospital is entering an exciting development phase where we are looking for more engaged employees with an interest in healthcare development and who are ready to think outside the box. Acute inpatient care at home – the Department of Academic Home – means that patients who would otherwise be hospitalized are instead given the opportunity to receive equivalent care in their homes. Through digital, interactive, and flexible working methods – combined with planned home visits by nurses, we offer modern and coordinated care. This is supported by a team center staffed by nurses, located at the hospital, which coordinates care in real-time and where patient meetings with doctors take place via video calls.

In short, this means that the patient remains registered in a home department but stays at home with symptom monitoring/sample collection/medication management by a nurse who makes home visits 1-3 times/day together with a colleague, as well as digital connectivity with doctor rounds and monitoring of vital parameters. The startup of this care model is conducted in collaboration between the Department of Infectious Diseases and the Department of Surgery and Urology, which is why as a nurse you will be responsible for both of these patient groups. The position allows for some rotation between these areas to maintain development and competence.

This care model is in the startup phase and will be continuously developed together with colleagues and the project group, which means that working methods and routines will be developed continuously. We start with a few patients and plan to increase the size to a full department with over 20 beds.

Your Mission

As a nurse in the Department of Academic Home, you will be responsible for the care of patients in their home environment. Initially with standard nursing tasks during home visits and based on experience also in combination with responsibility for the team center. You will also work on rotation within acute/planned surgical and infectious disease care to learn more about the patient groups, in order to identify those patients who are suitable for this care model. There is always a responsible doctor at the hospital who, in close collaboration with the nurse at the team center, plans and coordinates. During on-call hours, the respective on-call line of the doctors is responsible for the patients.

Your Qualifications

We are looking for you who are a licensed nurse with good experience in inpatient care within infection/internal medicine and/or surgery. You should be flexible in your thinking and have a strong desire to develop the operations, and experience from development departments or similar is therefore of great value. A B driver's license is required.

We Offer

We offer a permanent full-time position, with start date according to agreement. A probationary period may apply. The working hours are initially scheduled for days, evenings, and weekends, but with full-scale operations, night shifts may also become relevant by agreement. Employment is ongoing.
