ST Doctor in Forensic Psychiatry
Do you want a meaningful job where your skills contribute to strengthening legal security? The National Board of Forensic Medicine is the expert authority that provides the judiciary with the basis for important decisions – from forensic medicine and forensic analyses to forensic psychiatric assessments. Whether you work in core operations or in a supportive role, you are part of something bigger: contributing to a legally secure society.
We are now looking for an ST doctor in forensic psychiatry for the forensic psychiatric examination unit in Stockholm, located at Helix, near Huddinge Hospital.
Your mission
The position is an ST position in forensic psychiatry where you will work under supervision but gradually more independently. During your ST period, you will undergo training in addiction medicine, criminology, law, correctional knowledge, and risk assessments. According to the National Board of Health and Welfare's guidelines for ST in forensic psychiatry, about 10 months of the service will be allocated to a forensic psychiatric care clinic if you have not already worked at such a clinic under supervision. Part of the ST is also allocated to our own residential department where you are responsible for the care provided to the inmates and you are also part of the unit's emergency staffing. As a rule, you should conduct 20–25 forensic psychiatric examinations and the same number of § 7 examinations under supervision before you can work independently as a specialist in forensic psychiatry. In addition to the support from your supervisor and the clinical supervisors in each individual case, there is always the opportunity to discuss cases and assessments with other colleagues.
As a forensic psychiatrist, you will subsequently lead teamwork during forensic psychiatric examinations and work independently during § 7 examinations. You will also be responsible for both the medical-psychiatric assessment and the overall assessment of all professionals' investigations, which is compiled in a statement on the forensic psychiatric examination. The work involves investigative interviews with suspected individuals, discussions with other team members, and reviewing documents such as preliminary investigation materials, previous medical records, and investigations.
After special training, you will also participate in the work of risk assessment of life-sentenced individuals who have applied for a time-limited sentence.
The National Board of Forensic Medicine has received two new assignments – to perform risk assessments on behalf of the Swedish Prison and Probation Service regarding conditional release and to conduct special risk investigations regarding security sentences on behalf of the court. The operation is in a phase of change and new employees are being recruited.
Qualifications
- Specialist doctor in psychiatry.
Meritorious
- Previous experience in forensic psychiatric assessment work, forensic psychiatric care, or psychosis care is advantageous.
Personal qualities and abilities
Since the investigations for the court have fixed time frames, you must be able to carry out the work in a structured manner. The work also places high demands on both collaboration skills and interpersonal interaction. To make objective assessments, you need to possess integrity as well as an ethical and professional approach, and a very good ability to express yourself verbally and in writing in Swedish.
We place great importance on your personal qualities.
The employment
The employment is a permanent full-time position that begins with a six-month probationary period. Start date is according to agreement. The placement is at the forensic psychiatric examination unit in Stockholm. The National Board of Forensic Medicine applies individual salary setting.
